Ada's Mattson 3rd in shot at track regionals

TIFFIN - Ada junior Noah Mattson qualified for the state meet by finishing third in the shot put at the Div. III track and field regional event at Tiffin Friday evening.
Mattson recorded a toss of 50-5 on his third attempt to finish third among the 16-man regional field in the shot put finals. That throw bested his top district toss by four inches.
Mattson's other three regional final throws covered 46-10.25, 48-8.75 and 48-9.5 in distance.
Junior Jacob Crawford of Liberty Center won the regional title with a top throw of 56-7.25. Senior Joe Stover of Tiffin Calvert narrowly took second over Mattson with a best toss of 50-7.75.
A top four finish in an event qualifies an athlete or relay for the state meet in Columbus next week.
Ada junior Miguel Jordan finished 15th in the 800-meter race Friday night. His time was 2:10.87. Junior Weston Kundo of Liberty Center won the 800 in 1:57.87.
The Bulldog 4 x 800 relay foursome of Michael Crouse, Reece Evans, Carson Hissong and Jordan finished 13th out of 16 quartets in the finals on Wednesday with a time of 8:48.98.
Liberty Center won the boys regional 4 x 800 relay race in a time of 8:08.03.
Mattson scored all six Ada points at the regional meet. Top eight finishers in an event score points, with 10 for first and eight for second.
The Div. III state track and field meet is at Columbus in Ohio Stadium on the Jesse Owens track June 1-2.
