Women’s tennis loses in OAC finals
MASON — Ohio Northern saw its season come to an end with a 5-1 losss to John Carroll in the finals of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament on Saturday at the Lindner Tennis Center.
The second-seeded Polar Bears end their season with a 19-7 record, while the top-seeded Blue Streaks improve to 18-6 overall and receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Championships.
Junior Ashley Ochsenhirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) and sophomore Katie Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win 9-7 at No. 3 doubles to lead ONU.
JCU won at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to go up 2-1, then won at Nos. 1, 4 and 5 singles to clinch the match.
Senior Lynn Kelly (Mason) was winning her singles contest 6-0, 2-3 at No. 2 with the contest was stopped at completion.
She won the last 10 singles matches of her career and the last 20 against non-division I opponents.
In her four seasons as a Polar Bear, Kelly is 124-36 overall and was 39-14 this season.
