Undefeated McVey gains regional honor
Senior All-American Ian McVey was named the Great Lakes Region Runner of the Year by the United Stated Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the second consecutive season.
McVey won the individual title at the Great Lakes Region Championships in 24:52.5. This was McVey's second regional title in a row. McVey also won his second consecutive individual title at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships and finished fourth at the All-Ohio Championships.
McVey was also named National Athlete of the Week during the regular season.
He successfully defended his individual championship title from the 2017 campaign and booked his third consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships after pacing the field by better than 13 seconds. His 24:52.5 clocking set a new 8k course record and is the third time this season that the senior has finished under 25 minutes.
With the win, the senior has won six individual meet titles in the 2018 season and enters the NCAA III Championships undefeated against Division III runners this season.
McVey finished tenth at the 2017 NCAA III Championships and will be gunning for a national title and his second All-America honor at the 2018 NCAA III Championships on Saturday at Winneconne, Wis.
