CANTON__Ada High School junior Lily Baumgartner fared well in both of her A Finals races at the Ohio state Div. II swim meet Friday evening in the C.T. Branin Natatorium at Canton.

Baumgartner met a pre-season goal of getting on the podium at the OHSAA meet by finishing fourth in the A Finals field of eight in the 100-yard backstroke Friday night, February 23.

She broke her previous 100 backstroke personal-best record with a time of 55.9, which was .06 faster than her preliminary time Thursday evening.

Earlier on Friday evening, the Ada junior touched the wall seventh in the 100-yard freestyle A Finals. She finished in a time of 52.43, .01 better than her preliminary time Thursday night.

“This was a challenging season due to her shoulder injury and having to switch events,” said Ada head coach Ashley Robey of Baumgartner. “I’m really impressed and proud of her work, and dedication to the sport.

“She’s a tremendous athlete and deserves the recognition,” he continued. “Now it is time to rest up and prepare for her senior year.”

Baumgartner has committed to swim at Ohio University after graduating from Ada. Her points clinched 24th place for Ada in the team standings out of 57 schools.

Baumgartner touched sixth in the girls 100 backstroke (55.96) preliminary heats Thursday night to make it to the Friday finals.

Baumgartner also finished seventh out of 32 swimmers in the 100-yard freestyle preliminaries Thursday.

The top eight finishers out of 32 competitors in the preliminary heats made it to the A Finals races Friday. The next eight (9-16) plus two alternates made it to the B Finals Friday.
