UPDATED at 5:00 p.m., December 30__High winds peeled off some large roof panels on the Ream McElroy VFW Post #3981 on Monday, December 29. Weather forecasts for the area included gusts of up to 45 miles per hour.
A crew was constructing a temporary cover at midday on Tuesday, December 30. The weather continued to be bitter cold and windy with some snow flurries.
Inside debris has also been cleaned up, according to J.D. Fleece, VFW Auxiliary President. Elevation Roofing has been hired for repairs.
At this time, the meeting hall side of the building is closed, but the Canteen is currently open. Hours will be 4-10:00 p.m. on December 30 and 4:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m. on New Year's Eve. On New Year's Day, the Canteen is open at noon and will serve pork, mashed potatoes and sauerkraut.
Fleece reported that in the meeting hall, the roof, ceiling and inner structures were damaged. It will be determined if the Canteen needs to close for renovation of the damaged areas.
The VFW post is located north of the Village of Ada at 2147 State Route 235.
