Ada’s Hickman 2nd in 400 regionals, advances to state

FOSTORIA__The Ada High School track and field team qualified one of its two competing athletes to state as both authored strong performances in final events on day two of the Div. V Northwest Region 15 track and field meet at Fostoria Memorial Stadium on Saturday, May 30.

Ada senior speedster Kayleb Hickman came in second place in the 400-meter finals on Saturday with a personal-best time of 49.74. He qualified easily for the Jesse Owens Track and Field Championships state meet June 4-5 at Ohio State University in Columbus.
King Wilson, Jr. won the regional crown in a time of 49.17.
The 400-meter preliminary boys race is at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 4. The 400 finals are set for Saturday, June 5 at 5:52 p.m.
Hickman had finished a strong third out of 16 runners in the 400-meter preliminary heats with a time of 50.53 to qualify for the regional final. Only the top two finishers in each heat, plus those with the next four best times, qualified for the region final.

Bulldog senior Anna Conley advanced to the discus finals from the flight one prelims on Saturday morning.
Conley was seeded 13th in the field of 16, but ended up a solid eighth. Her personal-best toss of 112-6 came on her third of six attempts. A toss of 111-1 on her fifth try was her second-best effort.
Easton Wymer of Van Buren won the event with a throw of 137-9, nine inches further than Arcadia’s Shia Watkins. The top three and four of the top eight discus finishers came from the Blanchard Valley Conference.
The top five finishers in the discus finals qualified for the state meet in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at Columbus June 4-5.
