The 143rd annual Commencement ceremony at Ada High School took place on a mild Sunday afternoon, May 24. In an event both solemn and joyous, 63 students celebrated their successful graduation and a shared experience of up to 13 years.
Students also remembered the passing of classmate Jayden Elwood in 2023 and retired teacher Tony Dyer in March 2026.
Among the oldest memories shared was an account by Principal Dr. Dan Lee, who recalled student responses from the Class of 2026 as first graders about how the school could be improved. Marshmallow erasers, chocolate fountains and a puppy for every student were among the suggestions made in 2015.
The Commencement speaker was English teacher David Ames, who was chosen by the Class of 2026. Ames reviewed some of the life lessons found in works of literature and film. He concluded, “Today, you guys graduate into a world that is imperfect. It’s unpredictable and honestly, super weird…. But, you also graduate with friendships, memories, lessons and the ability to keep writing our own stories.” He said, “Maybe the lesson for all these folks is we need to be ambitious but stay grounded. Be independent but stay calm. Ask for help when you need it. Don’t let fear stop you from growing.”
The event program lists student names and accomplishments with 23 Honors Diplomas, 30 National Honors Society members, and 36 students with a 3.5 GPA or higher. There are 17 students who completed programs at Apollo Career Center.
