WAYNESFIELD__The Ada High School volleyball team swept a non-league triangular match at Waynesfield-Goshen with Spencerville on Saturday, August 29.

Ada improved to 4-0 with the wins, which included a comeback thriller over the Bearcat girls.

Spencerville ran its record to 4-2 after beating Waynesfield-Goshen, 2-0. Waynesfield fell to 1-3, playing under new head coach Olivia Abner.

The Bulldogs beat the host Tigers 25-19, 25-15. Senior Jaylin St. Laurent passed out 12 assists, hit two kills and served an ace.

Sophomore Tea Griffith doled out seven assists, drilled four kills, served a pair of aces and made two digs.

Senior Brooklynn Andreasen knocked down eight kills and made two digs. Senior Dailah Preston smacked seven kills and made one solo block.

Senior Alivia Gibson knocked down three kills and came up with five digs. Sophomore Lucy Carter hustled up 11 digs. Taylor Price mustered two digs, and Ambriel Hollon added one dig.

Ada then rallied to beat the Bearcats, 2-1. Ada dropped the first set 19-25, then came back to win set two 25-19. The Bulldogs then won the decisive third game in overtime, 26-24. 

“It was an intense three-set win against a good team,” said new Ada head coach Kylie Murphy. “Our defensive specialist played great defense and kept balls alive, which allowed our hitters to finish points offensively.

“It was a team win. Everyone stepped up, did their job and trusted each other, and it paid off in the end. Very proud of the girls for staying composed under pressure and earning a hard-fought win,” she noted.

Preston hammered a dozen kills in the win. She also had one solo block and one block assist.

St. Laurent doled out 14 assists and made five digs. The versatile Griffith passed out 16 assists, drilled seven kills, had one block assist, served two aces and hustled up seven digs.

Andreasen knocked down six kills, dealt three aces and made two digs vs. the Bearcats. Gibson smacked four kills, served three aces and hustled up 10 digs.

Jaycee Allen contributed two kills and three digs. Carter mustered 23 digs and served one ace. Haylyn Geiger hit one kill. Harlyn Lowry came up with six digs.

The undefeated Bulldogs host winless Perry (0-3) in a non-league match on Tuesday, September 1. Ada then plays at Temple Christian (3-2) Sept. 3. County rival Hardin Northern (1-2) comes to Ada Saturday morning, Sept. 5.
