ADA__The Ada High School girls soccer team played hard but lost to visiting Woodmore 2-0 in a non-league battle on Tuesday night, Oct. 13 at War Memorial Stadium.

The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead at halftime and held on during a scoreless second half. The match marked the first time all season the Bulldogs have been out-shot, 17-11.

Ada fell to 12-2-2 with the home defeat that snapped a five-game win streak.

State power Woodmore improved to 11-4-1 after earning a road win under the lights. Bailey Meggitt and Taylor Hill netted the Wildcat goals.

“Woodmore is a very talented team; they made a run to the state semifinals last year, and we played (against) 10 seniors returning from that team,” said Ada head coach Doug Dewese. “I think we gave them a good fight, but didn't capitalize when we could.

“Both goals came off very small mistakes that wouldn't have cost us in other games, but you can't give them up to a team of that quality,” he observed. “I have to step back and remember that four years ago we were losing 9-0 to area teams - and Tuesday we just played super-hard against a deep and talented state contender from last year.

“The girls have grown, the program has grown,  and to be honest we played Woodmore down to the wire,” Dewese offered. “That says something about what these girls have done, and the effort they have put into this program.“

Ada junior keeper Emily Gibson stopped 11 of the 13 shots Woodmore fired on goal.

Wildcat keeper Abbie Schmeltz made four saves in goal.

The Bulldogs (1-1-1 NCOSA) visit unbeaten league powerhouse Miller City (15-0-1, 2-0-1 NCOSA) in the North Central Ohio Soccer Association and regular season finale Saturday, Oct. 17.

“Now it is time to re-set and go after Miller City this Saturday,” said Dewese. “I think we could grab a share of the NCOSA title with a win, so that’s the focus.”
