Ada girl cagers seeded 10th in sectionals, draw Parkway

The Ada High School girls basketball team was seeded 10th out of 13 teams at the Div. IV Shawnee/Spencerville super sectional drawing held by conference call Sunday, January 30.

Fourth-ranked New Knoxville (17-2) was voted the number one seed, with Marion Local (14-5) tabbed second by the coaches and Minster (11-7) third.

The Lady Bulldog cagers (5-12) will visit fifth-seeded Midwest Athletic Conference foe Parkway (11-7) Wednesday, February 16 at 7 p.m. 

The Ada/Parkway winner takes on fourth seed New Bremen (13-5) at Shawnee Saturday, February 19 at 3 p.m. NB received a first round bye.

The top seven seeds are all from the Midwest Athletic Conference.

Girls basketball moved to Jan. 31 to avoid snowstorm

The Leipsic at Ada High School girls basketball game originally scheduled for Thursday, February 3 has been moved to Monday, January 31 at 6 p.m. to avoid the impending snowstorm.

Presidents' Day Luncheon hosted by Hardin Co. Democrats

The Hardin County Democratic Party will host its annual Presidents' Day Luncheon on Saturday, February 26, 2022, from noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Kenton Moose Lodge (lower level) located at 801 West Lima Ave., Kenton, OH.

Candidates scheduled to speak include John Cranley (Cincinnati Mayor) for Governor, Cheryl Stevens (Cuyahoga County Council) for Lt. Governor, Jeff Crossman (State Representative) for Attorney General and Jeff Sites (Army veteran and warehouse manager) for US Congress.

Ada Area Chamber of Commerce director

Deb Curlis will step down from her position as the director of the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce at the end of February 2022. The Icon asked her for fifteen minutes to review her work with the chamber. 

Were you a chamber member before you became director?

I was the chamber representative for Community Health Professionals. When I first came to Ada to work, Matt Brown was the chamber president. He got me involved as a board member. Shortly after that, he took a job in Bellefontaine and I took over as president to finish out his term. I was re-elected and served five years as president.
