Music on vinyl beats out CDs in 2021

Year end 2021 reports include the news that music CD sales have lost to vinyl records for the first time in decades. According to music data provider MRC Data (https://mrcdatareports.com/mrc-data-2021-u-s-year-end-report/), vinyl album sales outpaced CDs for the first time in MRC Data history (since 1991).

The Icon contacted Ada’s Retro Music Ltd. for a local perspective. Owner Chad Smith explained that with new cars no longer providing CD players, the format is dying. In addition, CDs and their cases are relatively fragile items.

Mixed message of hope and fear relating to COVID-19 treatments

Remember Silver and Gold sung by Burl Ives in the 1964 movie Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, a Christmas classic widely known by many different generations? In 2005, Silver and Gold was included on the Disney Princess Christmas Album. Many may be familiar with Dolly Parton’s Silver and Gold released in 1991 with the lyric “And time can’t be brought back with silver and gold.” This line is particularly poetic during the pandemic. Grammy-award winning gospel artist Kirk Franklin released a song titled Silver and Gold in 1993. His lyrics included the line, “I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold.” 

Harold Cotsamire worked for Ohio Northern University

Updated January 13 with Memorial Service details.

Harold E. Cotsamire, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at 4:36 PM at the Homestead Assisted Living in Van Wert.

He was born on June 17, 1932, in Crawford County, Ohio to Melvin and Ruth (Guinther) Cotsamire, who preceded him in death, as well as his stepmother, Hazel (Leuthold) Cotsamire. Harold married Doris M. Clausing on July 3, 1955; they were married for 61 years prior to her death on September 13, 2016.   

Red Cross Blood Drive on January 24

Visiting Nurses & Hospice, 1200 S. Main St., will host a Red Cross blood drive on from 11:30 a.m. 5:30 p.m. on January 24.

There are openings for blood and Power Red donations. In Janaury, donors can be entered for a chance to win a trip for two to the Super Bowl

Rheumatology Specialists of Northwest Ohio Welcomes Kai Quin, MD

Blanchard Valley Health System has announced that Kai Quin, MD, a physician specializing in rheumatology, has joined the health system's team at Rheumatology Specialists of Northwest Ohio. 

Dr. Quin earned a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, Michigan). He pursued a medical degree at The Ohio State University College of Medicine (Columbus, Ohio), where he also completed his internal medicine residency and rheumatology fellowship. Dr. Quin is board certified in both internal medicine and rheumatology.

Hooray for baby's first library visit

Jolene McCoy says "hooray" for her first visit to the Ada Public Library and its collections of children's books and toys. She attended the Monday drop-in play time for toddlers.
