Apollo Career Center report to Ada Schools

Apollo Career Center Superintendent Keith Horner attended the December 16 Ada Board of Education meeting and presented an update including the documents attached to this article.

There are currently 27 Ada students enrolled at the career center at 3325 Shawnee Rd. Lima, which serves eleven high schools. Ada students are participating in Automotive Technology, Building and Renovations, Career Exploration, Carpentry, Construction Equipment Technology, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Education, Fire/EMS Technology, Health Science, Sports Fitness and Exercise Science, and Welding and Fabrication programs.

Ram 2nd half downs Bulldog boys

The Ada High School boys basketball team stayed within striking distance of favored rival Upper Scioto Valley over the first half of their semifinal game in the Border Battle tournament Wednesday night, December 29, at Harrod.

The Bulldogs trailed just 26-18 at intermission. But the Rams blew the game open with a 20-4 third period and outscored Ada 33-9 in the second half to win going away, 59-27.

Senior Connor Sanders led the Rams with 29 points, while Drew Stephens added 17 points.

USV's Maddox Underwood contributed eight rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Rumpke calendars and recycling updates

2022 Rumpke refuse and recycling calendars have been mailed out to Ada residents. If you do not receive one in the mail, you may stop in the Municipal Building to pick up a copy.

Local otter sightings

Social media made the Icon aware of river otters being sighted by local photographers. A call from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources confirmed that in recent years the otter population has spread into northwest Ohio.

ODNR Wildlife research technician Sara Zaleski noted that otters seek clean, high quality water and that their presence is a good reflection on area water conditions.

In the early 20th century, otters were trapped out of existence (extirpated) in Ohio. In 1986, they were reintroduced by a program that brought otters to the eastern parts of the state. Since then, those populations and Michigan and Indiana populations have spread into our area.

McGuffey water meter change out

The Village of McGuffey has reported that a contractor will begin changing out all water meters on December 29. Some discoloration of water may occur.

The change out will take several days.
