Lady Bulldogs beaten by Lancers in NWC opener

The Ada girls basketball team fell behind early and lost 69-39 at unbeaten Lincolnview in the Northwest Conference opener Thursday night, December 2.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the NWC with the loss. The Lancers improved to 4-0 and 1-0 with the victory.

Ada trailed 24-8 after the first period and 41-21 at halftime. Lincolnview led 59-32 after three periods and won the closer second half, 28-18.

Lincolnview canned four of its 10 three-point goals in the first quarter, and was never threatened.

"Lincolnview shot extremely well," said Bulldog head coach Morgan Bass. "Despite the score, we did do some good things.

The elementary musical took place on the afternoon of December 2 under the direction of teacher Tabitha McPeeks.

Hardin Co. Astronomy Club meets Dec. 8

The Hardin County Astronomy Club will meet Wednesday December 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the McGuffey Village multipurpose room which is behind the post office, 402 Courtright St,

Topics scheduled for the meeting include: a demonstration of different types of telescopes, Christmas Lights and Light Pollution, the constellation Taurus, and sharing sketches of Orion from last month.

Mary Ann Stair graduated from McGuffey High School

Mary Ann Stair, age 83, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at the comfort of her home.

She was born on June 24, 1938, in Hardin County, Ohio to the late Silas and Callie (Hites) VanSky. On February 12, 1960, Mary Ann married Larry C. Stair and he preceded her in death on May 31, 1992.

Taryn Winegardner worked for Ohio Security System

Taryn Blythe Winegardner, age 30, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.  

She was born on November 13, 1991, in Lima, Ohio to Brian McNabb and Sonya Winegardner.  Her father and stepmother, Brian and Connie McNabb survive in Lima and her mother, Sonya survives in Ada.

Also surviving is her son, Brandon Prater of Ada; a maternal grandmother, Twyla Winegardner; and a half sister, Jennifer McNabb of Dayton.

She was preceded in death by her fiancé, Andrew Sharp; paternal grandparents: William and Jeannie McNabb; and maternal grandfather, Larry Winegardner.

Scholarships for college Juniors and Seniors from Hardin Co.

The Hardin County University Club II has announced that the club's scholarship award applications are now available, according to Adeline Terry, 2021-2022 president.

Each year, University Club II awards one $1,000 scholarship to a graduate from any of the Hardin County High Schools who is currently a college junior or senior. Since 1964 the club has given over $36,000 to assist students finishing their junior or senior year in college.
