Ada Lions taking orders for mulch with deliveries beginning May 1

The Ada Lions Club annual spring mulch sale begins on Saturday, May 1, according to Chad Hays.

This is the club’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and since 2000 it has generated $87,200 in local scholarships.

Here’s some of the details:
Taking orders now at 419-634-5626 and 419-302-5987.

Proceeds from the sale go to the Lions Club scholarship fund.

Mulch may be picked up on Saturdays after 8 a.m. at Bass Trucking, 0410 State Route 81, Ada. Deliveries are available on Saturdays.

Brown mulch is $30 per Bobcat scoop; black mulch is $35 per Bobcat scoop. Delivery cost is $10 per trip in Ada and $20 per trip in the surrounding area.

ONU vaccine clinics are back!

Swiching to Moderna and working to acquire Pfizer

Ohio Northern University has been able to acquire two-dose Moderna vaccines for its upcoming state-sponsored COVID-19 mobile mass vaccination clinics.

 Clinics scheduled for Wednesday, April 14, in Marion and Union counties respectively have been cancelled. Clinics scheduled at the Crawford County Fairgrounds in Bucyrus on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and at Ohio Northern University on Friday from 2-6:30 p.m. will still be offered.

Ada boys lose high-scoring nailbiter to Falcons

MT. BLANCHARD - Visiting Ada lost 8-4 to Riverdale in a non-conference softball game Tuesday evening.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 5-3 overall with the loss that snapped a three-game win streak. Riverdale improved to 8-1 with the victory.

Ada senior Leona Dalton doubled home two runs in the top of the first inning to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. 

But the Falcons plated three runs in the third to take a 3-2 edge.

A leadoff Dalton single in the top of the fourth was followed by Alexis Waugh and Katie Sizemore both getting hit by a pitch. Two passed balls and a hit by Kayla Wince helped Ada regain the lead, 4-3.

ONU student named 2021 Goldwater Scholar

Ohio Northern University junior Bret Lane, a mechanical engineering student with a minor in applied mathematics, has been selected as a 2021 Goldwater Scholar.

Lane, of Frankfort, Ohio, is one of 410 college students across the United States selected by the federally endowed Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation to receive this premier undergraduate award that honors outstanding academic work in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering. 

This year’s awardees were selected through a partnership with the Department of Defense and the National Defense Education Programs (NDEP).

Red Cross responds to Arlington house fire

The American Red Cross of North Central Ohio responded to an early morning fire in Arlington on Wednesday, according to Todd James.

The Red Cross provided assistance for the immediate needs, such as temporary lodging, food and clothing for one adult living in the home.
