Night in Bethlehem Dec. 3-4 at Camp Common Ground, Dunkirk

The tenth annual Night in Bethlehem will be held at Camp Common Ground in Dunkirk on Saturday, Dec. 3, and Sunday, Dec. 4.

“Night in Bethlehem,” an interactive, hands-on recreation of ancient Bethlehem. It is held  from 4 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 3 and from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 4. “Night in Bethlehem is a walk-through tour, which is all about experiencing what life was like at the time Jesus was born.

Moving among costume actors, Bethlehem guests will visit working shops of local craftsmen including possible shops such as a baker, tile shop, carpenter, toy maker, and perfumer. A star leads to the stable where the shepherds tell of angels and a mysterious birth. There are 14 different shops and encounters throughout the event.

The event is held in minimally heated buildings, so visitors should dress appropriately in cold weather.  Plan on a minimum of one to one and a half hours to see everything.

The event is free, though donations are accepted.  Refreshments are available.

Camp Common Ground is located at 105 Rangeline Road (Co. Rd. 135) on the west edge of Dunkirk.  Watch for signs on State Route 81 and State Route 68. Roman soldiers will be there to help with parking.
