Free jazz concert at ONU Sept. 28

The Parker Presents jazz group will perform at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28 in Presser Hall. The event is free and open to the public. The group consists of Gene Parker on saxophone, Ray Parker on bass, Harry Allen on tenor sax, Tad Weed on piano and George Schuller on drums.

 Gene Parker, an adjunct professor of jazz at Ohio Northern, plays more than 12 instruments. He has been a professional musician in the Toledo area for many years. His son, Ray Parker, is a New York City bass player. Both men have performed nationally with some of the biggest names in show business.

 This Parker Presents recital is the first in a series of jazz recitals to be held at Ohio Northern this year. In each recital, the Parkers will perform with different guest artists who are notable jazz musicians.  

 Allen, a recording artist with more than 30 recordings to his name, has performed in jazz clubs and festival around the world. Weed, a performer, arranger and composer, has toured internationally and is an adjunct assistant professor of jazz piano at Bowling Green State University as well as assistant professor of jazz studies at University of Toledo. Schuller, son of the famous Gunther Schuller, is a composer and arranger.
