Bulldog matmen edged in tri-meet

BELLEFONTAINE - The Ada wrestling team grappled at Ben Logan along with Buckeye Valley Friday night, losing two close dual matches.

 

The Bulldogs fell to BL 30-23, and lost 42-39 to Buckeye Valley.

 

In their first match, Ada senior Chase Sumner defeated Cole Hauser of host BL 10-8 at 145 lbs.

 

Bulldog sophomore Reece Evans followed with a 5-1 decision victory over Raider Taylor Hites at 152 lbs. to pull Ada within 6-5.

 

Ada junior Carson Hissong posted a pin of Nick Rose at 1:04 in the 160 lbs. class to give the Bulldogs an 11-6 edge.

 

Bulldog senior Xander White pinned Garrett Henry at 182 lbs. in 1:11 to provide Ada a 17-11 lead.

 

BL won the 195 lbs. bout and recorded a forfeit win at 220 to seize a 24-17 edge. Ada's Adam Bailey won by forfeit at the heavyweight division to inch within 24-23.

 

But BL won the decisive 106 lbs. match by pin early in the first round to clinch the 30-23 victory.

 

Against Buckeye Valley, Ada fell behind 24-0 due to four early forfeits before rallying. Senior Kade Cortez was victorious at 138 lbs. with a 12-11 decision to ignite the comeback.

 

Sumner won by pin at 1:04 in the 145 lbs. matchup to bring the Bulldogs within 24-9.

 

Hissong triumphed by another pin (1:43) at 160 lbs. to make it 30-15. A forfeit to White at 182 lbs. cut the BV lead to 36-21.

 

Ada senior Erryk Katayama executed a pin at 195 lbs. in just 26 seconds to make it 42-27. Bailey followed with a heavyweight/285 lbs. division pin in 1:17 to pull the Bulldogs within 42-33.

 

Bulldog freshman Colton Beiderman then won by forfeit at 106 lbs. to make the final score 42-39.

 

The scheduled Bulldog dual match at home vs. Van Buren Thursday, Feb. 8 was cancelled and won't be made up.

 

Ada next competes in the Div. III sectional meet at LCC February 23-24
