Two golfers honored for scholarship

Ohio Northern men's golfers Zach Goodchild (Pickerington/North) and Nick Anderson (Mason) recently added their names to the annual Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar awards list, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Goodchild, a statistics/risk management and insurance major, received his second All-America Scholar honor.

On the course this season, he would lead the Polar Bears with a 74.8 stroke-average, which stands second all-time in school history behind his 74.4 stroke-average set during his junior campaign.

The senior also posted a career-best 36-hole effort (141) and tied the 18-hole school record (67) in his final year, leading him to a victory at the Defiance Spring Invitational.

Additionally, he would claim an individual title at the Bluffton Fall Classic and record his highest career finish at the OAC Championships where he ended in a tie for fourth place and earned All-OAC honors.

Anderson, a junior civil engineering major, picked up his first All-America Scholar nomination.

In 16 rounds, he would record a 78.4 stroke-average to post the second-best mark on the team.

Anderson also recorded three individual top-10 finishes this season at the Defiance Fall Invitational (2nd), the Spiess Invitational (5th), and the OAC Fall Preview (t-6th).

The men's golf program ended the 2017-18 season with a 25-50-1 record and a fourth-place finish in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships under fifth-year head coach Chad Bucci.
