BLUFFTON - Ada co-hosted a four-team Northwest Conference match Tuesday at the Bluffton Golf Course, which was won by Bluffton.

The Pirates won with 178 strokes, followed closely in second by Lincolnview (182). Allen East shot 207 and Ada finished fourth with 252 strokes.

"We played well," said Ada head coach Jason Campbell. "We are getting scores consistently in the high 50s and mid-60s. That's a big jump from last season. I am proud of the progress the team is making."

Back to school that is - here's a video and lots of photos

Remember your first day of school as a first grader?

That experience was felt again this morning in the Ada Schools. First graders all the way to seniors said goodbye to summer and hello to the 2017-18 school year.

The Icon roamed the school halls and captured some of the pre-8:15 a.m. moments.

You'll see photos of students waiting in the cafeteria, waiting outside, meeting their teacher and finding their classroom.

Make certain you watch the video as the school doors open for the first time.

He's the original "Guerrilla Painter"

Carl Judson gives plein air presentation Thursday at ONU

Carl Judson, the original “Guerrilla Painter,” will give a plein air painting presentation at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 17, in the Wilson Fine Arts building on the ONU campus.

He is the creator of unique plein air painting boxes – sometimes called outdoor painting.

William Mancuso said, “Carl has been a plein air painter for over 30 years, and is interested in helping others find ways of integrating plein air painting more fully into people’s daily lives.”

He added: “This all relates back to the time of the Impressionists when painting became portable and a new interest in diverse subject matter exploded onto the stage.”

Community service efforts set tone for engaged learning

Ohio Northern University will put active learning and community involvement into practice with the annual Ada Community Engagement (ACE) Day beginning at 10 a.m. on Aug. 19.

The program is designed to engage incoming students with their college home and provide opportunities for ONU’s first-year students to contribute to the village and surrounding communities.

University members will travel to several individual residences to help with projects such as weeding, mulching and painting.

Alums and varsity

As a tune-up for the 2017 fall boys' soccer season the Ada HS varsity and the Ada HS alumni soccer team went head-to-head on Aug. 13. Here's a group team photo by Vickie Garmon. The varsity won a close contest 6-5.
