Fox named Freshman of the Year; Men's lacrosse lands three All-OAC honorees

Freshman Andrew Fox was named Ohio Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year for the 2016 men's lacrosse season, while three earned All-Conference honors announced Wednesday.

Fox was also named Second Team defense, while freshman Anthony Pavone also earned Second Team honors at midfield and freshman Steven Slagle garnered Honorable Mention honors.

Fox appeared in all 15 games for the Polar Bears forcing a team-high 36 turnovers, while picking up 42 ground balls. 

Pavone appeared in all 15 games making 14 starts as a freshman. He recorded 32 points tying a team-high 28 goals while shooting a team-high 113 shots. 

Three community groups receive Junior Civic League donations

The Ada Junior Civic League donated a total of $1,500 divided equally among three community organizations recently, according to Linda Staley.

The league members donated $500 to the Ada Public Library, $500 to the Ada Food Pantry, and $500 to the Red Cross.

Margaret Corbet was retired from Harrod Elementary cafeteria

Margaret J. Corbet, 94, died on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at 12:58 a.m. at Otterbein-Cridersville in Cridersville, Ohio.

She was born on Dec. 31, 1921, in Utica, Michigan, to George and Ada (Waldron) Wennesheimer who preceded her in death. On Nov. 7, 1942 she married Gordon R. Donnelly and he died on May 14, 1945. She later married Harry F. “Fred” Corbet on Aug. 14, 1947 and he died on January 23, 2002. 

Red Cross babysitter's training course in Ada June 2

Want to be a babysitter?

The American Red Cross can help. The Red Cross will hold a babysitter's training from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, June 2, in the Ada Presbyterian Church, accoding to June Zimmerman.

The course is recommended for youth ages 11 to 15. The instructor is a currently authorized American Red Cross Babysitter Training Instructor.

Zimmerman said, "The purpose is to provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for children and infants."

1.47 inches of rain in Liberty Township from April 15-30

For the time period of April 15-30, Hardin County Extension rainfall reporters recorded an average of 1.46 inches of rain in Hardin County. 

Phil Epley of Liberty Township reported 1.47 inches of rainfall during this period.

Last year, the average rainfall for the same time period was 1.06 inches.  Rainfall for the April 15-30 time period is 0.55 inches less than the 10-year average rainfall during the same dates.

Cessna Township received 2.40 inches for the April 15-30 time period, the most of any of the township sites. 

Buck Township received 0.66 inches for the April 15-30 time period, the least of any of the township sites.
