Softball: Lady Bulldogs nipped at Jefferson

By Cort Reynolds
DELPHOS - Ada lost a tight pitcher's duel at Delphos Jefferson 2-1 in a Northwest Conference softball contest Thursday evening.

The purple and gold fell to 5-7 overall and 0-3 in the NWC with the defeat. Meanwhile, the Lady Wildcats improved to 3-8 and 1-1 in league play with the victory.

"We only had two hits - that tells the story right there," said Ada head coach Rebecca Dicke. "Dalton pitched a good game, we just didnít hit well enough to support her."

All three runs in the low-scoring game were tallied in the third inning. Ada broke on top 1-0 in the top of the third when Alexis Ennis doubled Brenna George home.

But in the home half of the third, DJ pushed across two runs. Neither team scored over the final four frames.

Ada sophomore pitcher Leona Dalton gave up just five hits and two earned runs in a tough defeat. She struck out seven Wildcats and walked only one batter.

Aly Lindeman fired seven innings of two-hit softball to win the game. She allowed only one earned run and struck out five while walking three.

Wildcat Jayla Rostorfer had two hits and scored a run. Michelle Rode drove in one run with a single. Noel Warnement added a double.

Sophomore catcher Alexis Waugh added the only other Ada hit, and also coaxed a walk. George walked and stole a base, while Aubrey Madison had a sacrifice and drew a walk.

Ada was out-hit by DJ, 5-2. The Tigers committed two errors while the Bulldogs made only one miscue. Ada stranded six baserunners while DJ left five on base.
