Today, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), in partnership with Ohio Campus Compact, announced a $325 grant for a campus project at Ohio Northern University as part of a new mini-grant program announced at the Propel Ohio 2019 Collegiate Leadership Summit at Bowling Green State University in November.
Students who attended the Propel Conference were invited to apply for grants of up to $500 to support their community outreach projects. The award will be used toward a project to promote the use of reusable shopping bags.
“Over the past year, we’ve seen young people making their voices heard, getting involved, rallying, marching,” said Brown.
“And that’s how you change our cities and our state and our country for the better – by using your voices to tell your own stories, and the stories of your family and friends and neighbors who don’t feel like they have a voice.
These awards will help young people put their ideas into motion in a tangible way, by supporting them as they make a positive impact in their communities.”
“Over the past five years, Propel Ohio has brought together college and university students, staff and faculty along with community partners to discuss issues facing Ohio communities and to learn about the work that is being done to address these issues,” said Dick Kinsley, Executive Director of Ohio Campus Compact.
“Propel Ohio helps give voice to and opportunities for action to the next generation of Ohio leaders.
Ohio Campus Compact is a statewide non-profit coalition of 41 college and university presidents and their campuses working to promote and develop the civic purposes of higher education.
Sen. Brown co-hosted the Propel Ohio 2019 Collegiate Leadership Summit at Bowling Green State University.
The one-day summit connected Ohio college students with resources about careers in public service and promotes civic engagement. More than 400 students and administrators from 68 Ohio colleges and universities attended this year’s summit, which Brown has hosted for the past five years.
Brown hosted the summit in partnership with BGSU, ProMedica, Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing, Ohio Campus Compact, UAW Region 2B, First Solar, United Way of Greater Toledo, and the Corporation for National & Community Service.
