School information: Distant learning, free meals, grades and technology

Meals will begin on Wednesday

Ada schools sent a letter to parents on Ohio Alerts at 5:03 p.m. today, March 16. The letter covers distant learning, grading, free breakfasts and lunches, and other information. The letter follows:

Thank you for your flexibility and support amidst this unique challenge.  Our goal is to continue to educate our students through distance learning. We know that this will be a difficult adjustment for our students and families.

Our teachers are working hard to develop creative, engaging opportunities for our students to continue their learning.  Below is a list of important points we wanted to share with our families.

Distance Learning - Teachers will be sharing assignments with students through different digital platforms including Google Classroom.

Teachers shared expectations and directions with their students on Friday, 3/13. Encourage your students to share these resources with you.  All teachers will be offering their students opportunities for academic support through email and other online communications. Encourage your student to reach out if they need help.

Grades - Grades will continue to be posted on ProgressBook throughout the fourth quarter. Third quarter grade card info will be shared in the near future.

Free Breakfast and Lunch - We will be prepared to begin providing these meals on Wednesday.  A complete statement with details will be sent out tomorrow. Some basic details include volunteers will pick up a group of meals (for those requesting delivery) at 7 a.m., and should all be delivered by 8 a.m. (be patient with us).

Those who are picking up meals will pull up to the curb by the cafeteria/auditorium, and will be given their meals by volunteers. Those picking up their children’s meals should not arrive before 7:30 a.m. to avoid congestion, and will have until 10 a.m. to pick up these meals.

Meals will be distributed at the curb to the driver. More to come. If you still would like to fill out the survey to have your child included, please do so at https://forms.gle/zFTNAE62wZqZnKWV9

Digital Safety and Technology Care - Student online activity is still  monitored and filtered on school devices off campus but nothing takes the place of parental oversight.  Students are also responsible for the care and safe return of their device.

Chromebooks - All students 3-12 were given the opportunity to check out a Chromebook and charger at the end of the day on Friday, 3/13. If your student did not pick up a device and needs one, please contact the central office at (419) 634-6421.

Shared Stories - Please share any fun learning stories/experiences your student has with us during this time period.  Feel free to email Mrs. Skilliter at [email protected] to share stories and/or pictures, etc.  Make sure you only share about your child.

Please consider reading or rereading the guidelines for keeping your family and all other families safe at https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/covid-19/home/resources/covi... This is not a snow day.  Parents should set expectations for students’ whereabouts that align with the ODH guidelines.

Please do not hesitate to contact our school if your student needs support in any area.  The quote “adversity does not build character, it reveals it” seems appropriate. Witnessing how our community has come together in support of our kids has been truly incredible!
