Arrests made in Hardin and Logan County theft cases

As part of an ongoing theft investigation by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office and Hardin County Crime Task Force, a search warrant was executed on Wednesday January 19 at 102 Park St. in the Village of Alger. 

The search resulted in the recovery of stolen tools, mowers, trailers, and power equipment. A 48-year-old male resident at the address Tobias Philipps, was taken into custody and lodged at the Multi County Correctional Center. The matter remains under investigation. Officers were assisted at the scene by Minich’s Towing. 

On Thursday January 20, the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office and the Hardin County Crime Task Force assisted multiple Logan County agencies with yet another theft investigation that resulted in the arrest of a Belle Center man for theft offenses in both Logan and Hardin Counties.

An ongoing investigation by officers of the Washington Township Police Department, resulted in Kameron Montgomery, 26, of Belle Center being taken into custody on several felony theft, vandalism, and criminal tools charges. He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.

Montgomery was a suspect in several thefts involving catalytic converters from vehicles at Indian Lake Schools and other theft related offenses throughout Logan and Hardin Counties.

Montgomery was located around 9 a.m. in Kenton and a traffic stop was initiated by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office. During their investigation, catalytic converters were recovered from the vehicle Montgomery was driving that had recently been stolen from vehicles in Hardin County.

Officers from the Washington Township Police Department interviewed the individuals involved in the traffic stop and tied the thefts from Indian Lake Schools to Montgomery.

Additional charges are pending for Montgomery as well as other subjects involved in the thefts.

The Logan County Unified Drug Task Force, Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Kenton Police Department and Ada Police Department all assisted in the investigation.
