Bulldogs 10th at own wrestling Invite; McClain 2nd at 150

ADA__Ada High School hosted its annual 18-team wrestling invitational tournament Saturday, February 3, in the varsity gym.

Mohawk won the team title with 276.5 points. Fostoria was a distant second (192.5), followed by Lake in third (187). Ada tallied 97 points.

Bulldog senior Clayton McClain took second in the 150 lbs. division to post the top Ada finish. He was seeded second in the 18-man 150 class, which was split into four different pools. 

McClain went 4-0 to win Pool D behind two pins and a pair of majority decision wins in preliminary competition. This advanced him to a stacked final four against the other three undefeated winners of Pool A, B and C.

In the semifinals of the 150 lbs. tournament, he decisioned Crestview senior Levi Grace 5-3. In the title round match, McClain lost a 14-4 decision to Fostoria senior James Simms to finish 5-1 at the event.

Sophomore Silas Riblet (113) and junior Liam Vieira (144) each finished fourth in their respective weight classes.

Riblet went 2-1 with two pins during preliminary action in Pool A. He lost in the semifinals to eventual 113 lbs. champion Mason Snyder of Lake. In the third-place bout, he dropped a 7-5 decision to finish 2-3 on the day.

Fourth seed Vieira was a perfect 3-0 in Pool B action. He lost in the quarterfinals, then fell in the third-place bout by pin to end up 3-2 Saturday.

Junior Landon Simon came in a solid fifth at the 215 lbs. class. Simon was 2-1 with two pins in Pool C. He then won the consolation quarterfinals by pin to advance to the fifth-place bout.

Simon then pinned junior Brady Fuerst of Columbus Grove at 2:13 to capture fifth and finish 4-1 on the day.

Freshman Wyatt Fisher ended up eighth at 132 lbs. Fisher was 2-1 with a pair of pins in Pool A action. He then lost in the quarterfinals and in the seventh-place match to end up 2-3 on the day.

Freshman Layne Simon went 2-2 in Pool C of the 157 lbs. bracket.

The Bulldogs wrestle at Rossford Saturday, Feb. 10.

Ada will host the Northwest Conference championship meet for the first time Saturday, Feb. 17.
