Olwin retires, leaving Ada with head coaching vacancy

A 39-year coaching career with five in Ada

Ada head football coach Bob Olwin told the Icon on Monday night that he will be retiring from coaching, following an illustrious 39-year career that ended with five years in Ada. He will be retiring from teaching physical education at the end of the school year as well.

Ada High School posted a job opening for the head varsity football coaching position on the OHSAA’s website on Monday.

Superintendent: Rumors of school lockdown are false

A note found on campus was brought to the attention of the administration

Rumors this morning (Tuesday, March 20) of a lockdown at Ada Schools are false, according to Meri Skilliter, Ada school superintendent.

She sent that notice at 11:36 a.m. on the [email protected].

Following that announcement, the school issued the following statement:

This morning a note was found on campus that was brought to the attention of administration.

Police, who were already on grounds, and administration investigated the message and found no concern related to safety of staff, students or visitors. The school day proceeded as usual.

Robert L Carman Jr, 1959 - 2018

 Robert L. Carman Jr, age 58, died on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 8:09 p.m. at his residence in LaFayette.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Cable Road Alliance Church. 

Dr. Francis (Frank) A. Gangemi, 1929 - 2018

Dr. Francis (Frank) A. Gangemi died peacefully March 18 at The Heritage in Findlay with his wife and daughter Maria by his side.  Frank was born February 20, 1929 in Syracuse, NY, the sixth of nine children born to Antonino and Santa (Calabro) Gangemi.  Frank is survived by wife Charleen (Krofft) and daughters Sandra (born to ex-wife Lee Howe), Emily (Scott Feiner) and Maria (Sean Luo); grandsons Hugh, Conrad and Lucian Campbell, Henry Luo and step-grandson Ry Feiner; granddaughters Destiny Hemry and Brittany (Ryan) Gardner.  Frank was preceded in death by beloved son Joseph and all of his siblings Chris, Larry, Joe, Tony, Virginia, Mickey, Angie and Josie. 

 

Country-style breakfast on Saturday

The Alger Memorial Festival Committee is sponsoring a Country-Style breakfast on Saturday,April 7 from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. 

They will be serving biscuits, sausage gravy, hash-browns, scrambled eggs, fried apples, sausage patties and beverage.
