Ada library director meets Library of Congress librarian

The trio met Friday in Perrysburg where Ms. Hayden spoke of her efforts to make the “library of the people” more accessible to all Americans. She runs a facility with 3,000 employees and an annual budget of $618 million.

The 214-year-old venerable institution houses 162 million items. Appointed by President Obama, she is the first woman and first African-American to head the Library of Congress.

ONU's Relay for Life goal was $18,000

It may take a wombat and Tasmanian devil, but ONU students do what is necessary to raise money for cancer research.

The Campus Relay for Life had a goal of $18,000 to raise between 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday during a walk inside the Sports Center.

Student organizations set up tables around the running track. The theme this year was foreign countries. Pictured at the Australian table are (from left) Amber Lilly, Shelby Barga as kangaroo, and Kelly Beazel, members of Kappa Psi pharmacy fraternity.

ONU softball now 11-3

TIFFIN — Senior Kirsten Lightel (Tallmadge) threw a 3-hit shutout in dominating fashion to lead the Ohio Northern softball team to a double header split at Heidelberg on Saturday afternoon at Fran's Field.

The Polar Bears (11-3 overall, 1-1 Ohio Athletic Conference) won the opener 3-0 behind Lightel's 12-strikeout shutout.

Vehicle theft and pursuit near Ridgeway

A man in his late teens or early 20s is being sought in relation to a motor vehicle theft and pursuit by deputies occurring at 4 a.m.Sunday. The sheriff’s office received a call about a car being stolen from a residence at 20087 CR 199 near Ridgeway.

The homeowner, who saw the vehicle being driven from his driveway, was able to follow the vehicle and direct responding deputies to his location.  Deputies located the vehicle as it entered Logan County where a low speed pursuit ensued.

At CR 40 the vehicle was driven off the roadway into a field where attempts to stop it were unsuccessful.

Wills wins!

Mackenzie Wills (pictured), a sophomore from Ada, won both of her matches for Ohio Northern during women’s tennis play on Saturday at Westwood Tennis in Lima. Mackenzie won 6-0 at No. 5 singles and 8-0 in doubles. Overall, the team beat Heidelberg 9-0 in the OAC opener. ONU improves 11-3 on the season.
