Tickets still available for wine sampling evening

The Inn at ONU Around the World wine sampling event is Sept. 13

Tickets are still available for The Inn at ONU's around the world wine sampling event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 13.

The event allows participants to sample wines before purchasing bottles of wine. Ticket-holders may sample five two-ounces of wine with a selection of appetizers. Eight wines will be available at the event.

Each wine is unique to the Inn and is not available at local groceries. Tickets are $30 per person and are inclusive of tax and service fees.

Comedy murder mystery tickets on sale

The Inn at ONU hosts the event Oct. 27-28

Here's the lowdown on the Friday-Saturday, Oct. 27-28 comedy murder mystery event at The Inn at ONU.

Family and friends of Horatio Hornblow Haversham gather at his mountain castle on his 90th birthday. A terrible storm rages on outside but even more dire events take place inside the mansion walls. A midnight séance! Ghostly spirits from beyond! A last will is missing! Mysterious uninvited strangers. And dead bodies piling up. This funny murder mystery has lots of laughs and chills.

Appetizers are served from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and the drama follows.

Men's and Women's Track & Field set to open 2018 schedule Jan. 20 at OAC Split Meet

ADA — The Ohio Northern men's and women's track and field teams are set to open the 2018 campaign on Jan. 20 at the Ohio Athletic Conference Split Meet under the guidance of 9th-year head coach Jason Maus.

After the OAC Split meet, the Polar Bears will compete at both the Findlay Classic & Elite Throws meet and the Midwest Track & Field Open, hosted at the SPIRE Institute on Jan. 26-27.

Northern will host its first home meet on Feb. 3, as it hosts the annual Joe Banks Invitational at the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse.

Season Preview: Women's Tennis looks to post 22nd consecutive upper-division OAC finish in 2017

ADA — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team will look to continue its success during the 2017-18 season both on the court and in the classroom under the guidance of 17th-year head coach Scott Wills. 

Northern finished second in the OAC a season ago after finishing the season 22-5 overall and posting a 7-1 record in the OAC.

Under the Wills tenure, the Polar Bears have been Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season champions, Tournament champions or runners-up in 15 of the last 16 years, which has included team titles in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015. 

Women's Tennis opens 2017 Fall schedule with 9-0 wins over Defiance, Concordia (Mich.)

DEFIANCE — The Ohio Northern women's tennis team opened its 2017 Fall schedule with a pair of 9-0 victories over Defiance and Concordia (Mich.) on Wednesday afternoon at Defiance's Dix Tennis Facility.

The Polar Bears are 2-0 on the season, while the host Yellow Jackets fall to 0-3 and the Cardinals fall to 0-1.

The victory over Defiance marks the 17th consecutive season-opening victory for Ohio Northern.

Sophomore Ola Latala (Grosse Ile, Mich.) and junior Ashley Ochsenhirt (Birmingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) each posted victories at No. 1 singles to lead Ohio Northern.

Men's Soccer opens 2017 home schedule with 2-1 victory over Wittenberg

ADA -- The Ohio Northern men's soccer team defeated Wittenberg 2-1 in its home season opener Wednesdayevening at Kerscher Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 1-1-1 overall, while the Tigers fall to 0-2-0.

Northern was led in the contest by junior Joseph Schulte (Copley) and senior Colin Johnson (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) as the duo each scored a goal.

WU would strike first in the contest in the 12th minute as a Tiger forward received a pass from the Tiger keeper and beat a Northern defender to push the lead to 1-0.
