Pool bids come in under estimate

The Village received five bids for the swimming pool project, all under the engineer's estimate of $1.4 million. Council members may decide which bidder was successful when they meet on March 21.

Work is slated to begin Sept. 5, which is after the upcoming season. Completion is set for April of next year.

Renovations include a new filtration system, new concrete around the pool, the renovation of the bathhouse, the addition of a splash pool, and a new concession stand. The pool itself will be unchanged

Ada's Conley named All-NWC cager

DELPHOS - Ada senior Owen Conley was named second team All-Northwest Conference in boys basketball by the league coaches in voting recently conducted at the annual selection meeting in Delphos.

 

Conley led the Bulldogs in scoring, rebounds and three-point field goals. The versatile 6-4 Conley topped Ada in scoring in 14 of their 23 games. He also set the Bulldog boys career record for made three-pointers (94).

 

In conference play, Conley averaged 12.8 points per game. His overall season-high of 31 points came in a 57-51 non-league win over Cory-Rawson.

 

The founding of the Ada Kiwanis Club 93 years ago

Jon Umphress described the founding of the Ada Kiwanis Club 93 years ago when he spoke at the club's regular meeting this week. He noted that the occasion included a parade through the business district and the members receiving keys to the village from the mayor.

The club received its charter from Kiwanis International on this date in 1924. 

Barton F. Snyder, a charter member of the club and editor of The Ada Herald, noted the following narrative in the Jan. 15 issue of the newspaper. 

"The Ada Kiwanis Club came into being at a preliminary meeting held in the University Cafeteria on Tuesday evening January 8, 1924.

Ada Quiz Bowl best of 40-team competition

Team advances to regional competition

The Ada High School Varsity Quiz Bowl Team won the 40-team Quiz Bowl Invitational held at the Wright State University Lake Campus.

The win enables the Bulldog team to advance to compete in the Ohio Academic Championships regional competition to be held in Van Wert in May.

Ada not only won the small school division, but also outpointed bigger schools such as Bath and St. Marys to capture the overall crown. Ada last captured a win in this prestigious tournament in 1993.
