AEP Foundation gift supports engineering facility campaign

 

The American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation has made a gift of a $50,000 grant to Ohio Northern University in support of the University’s “Campaign for Engineering: Building Impact at ONU.” The campaign supports construction of a new 105,000-square-foot engineering building.

ONU recently announced that a total of $11.8 million has been raised during the quiet phase of the campaign toward a total fundraising goal of $15 million.

“We are appreciative of the AEP Foundation’s support of Ohio Northern’s campaign effort,” said Shannon Spencer, ONU vice president for advancement.

Ada High School Marching Band Earns Excellent Rating at OMEA State Marching Band Contest

The Ada High School Marching Band earned an Excellent rating at the OMEA Marching Band Contest held Nov. 4 at Brunswick Auto Mart Stadium in Brunswick, with their Toy Story themed show "To Infinity." 

The production tells the story of galactic space ranger Buzz Lightyear, and takes the audience "To Infinity and Beyond" with selections such "You've Got a Friend in Me" and Frank Sinatra's "Come Fly With Me," as well as original compositions by director Jonathan Lischak. 

Col. David D. Kretz to speak at Veterans Day event at ONU

Col. David D. Kretz will deliver reflections during a Veterans Day wreath-laying ceremony at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 at the Henry Solomon Lehr statue on the front of the Ohio Northern University campus.

Kretz is commander of the 88th Mission Support Group, 88th Air Base Wing, based at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio. As commander, he leads more than 2,100 personnel and an annual budget of $54 million. Kretz enlisted in the Air Force in 1985 and received his commission in 1994 as a distinguished graduate of the Officer Training School. He has served in a variety of assignments, including three squadron commands.

Kenton Amateur Radio Club meets Nov. 28

The Kenton Amateur Radio Club will meet on Monday, Nov. 28, at Henry's Restaurant, 995 N. Detroit St., Kenton. Dinner is at 6 p.m. with the meeting to follow at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in amateur radio is welcome to attend.

Ada Scouts collecting canned goods, non-perishables for food pantry

It happens Saturday morning

Ada Scouts will collect canned goods and non-perishable items from Ada residents' doorsteps on Saturday, Nov. 12.

The food will be given to the Ada Food Pantry, located at the Presbyterian Church, where it is handed out on Tuesdays.

Residents are asked to put the food in a bag and leave it near the front door by 9 a.m. on Saturday.
