Wills keeps her tennis winning streak going

 Senior Jordan Dodson (Worthington) won 4-6, 6-0, 7-5 at No. 6 singles to break a 4-4 tie and lift the Ohio Northern women's tennis team to a 5-4 victory at Otterbein on Wednesday afternoon at the Otterbein Tennis Courts.

The Polar Bears remain undefeated at 4-0 overall and ar 3-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals fall to 1-1, 1-1.

ONU overcame deficits of 3-1 and 4-3 to earn the victory and stay on top of the OAC regular season standings.

Senior Katie Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) posted a pair of victories, winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and 8-5 with sophomore sophomore Regan Landis (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) and No. 3 doubles.

Terry Essex 1952 - 2021

 Terry Eugene Essex, 69, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, after a valiant fight with lung disease.

He was born on Jan. 31, 1952, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Zelma (Myers) Schaub and Harold Essex. 

Terry is survived by his wife Doris of Ada; his daughter, Wanda (Robbie) Meyers of Wapakoneta; his son, Kyle (Taylor) Essex of Wapakoneta; his step daughter, Kristina (Anthony) Aldora of St. Marys; and his step son, Jonathon (Anna) Schindler of Lima. 

Ada baseball downed by Grove in league opener

ADA - The homestanding Ada baseball team lost 11-3 to Columbus Grove Wednesday evening in the Northwest Conference lidlifter.

Ada dropped to 1-4 and 0-1 in the NWC with the defeat, while Grove improved to 2-3 and 1-0 with the victory. 

The purple and gold led 1-0 after the first inning, but Grove took the lead with a four-run third frame. CG smacked two triples and a double to spearhead the rally.

Ada cut the deficit to 4-2 with a run in the home third. But Grove scored seven more runs over the final four innings, including four in the seventh, to pull away and win.

ADA - Visiting Columbus Grove rallied late from a 7-1 deficit to nip Ada 9-8 in extra innings during a hard-fought Northwest Conference softball opener Wednesday evening.

Ada fell to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in NWC play with the hard to swallow defeat, while CG improved to 2-2 and 1-0 with the comeback win.

Ada scored in each of the first four innings to methodically build a six-run lead. Senior shortstop Brenna George started the scoring when she smacked a line drive over the center field wall with one out in the first inning.

Weather-permitting, Bulldogs entertain Wapak today

FOSTORIA - The visiting Ada tennis team blanked Fostoria 5-0 Wednesday evening to earn their first win of the season.

The Bulldogs improved to 1-2 after the victory.

"It was good to get the first team win," said Ada head coach Dexter Woods. 

Ada senior Miranda Wills earned her initial win of the season at first singles in straight sets.

"The first set featured numerous long rallies," said Woods. "Second set was shorter and more efficient as Miranda hit numerous well-placed approach shots that forced opponent errors, or that were followed by winning volleys."

Swim team sign-up April 27 and April 30

Following a summer with no swim team, the Ada Gators swim team is back!

A sign-up for youth between the ages of 5 and 18 to be part of this summer’s Ada swim team takes place on Tuesday, April 27, and Friday, April 30, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church.

The cost for the first swimmer in each family is $60, for the second $55, and for the third family member, $50. Checks may be made out to Ada Summer Swim Team.

The fee includes one program ad per family to be provided in the championship heat sheet.

A representative from Poco Loco will be present on April 27 to check sizes and take orders for swim suits.
