The 7 O'clock Icon over-ripe pear-apple pie

A pie can't distinguish between over-ripe fruit and ripe fruit

The Iconoclast baker saw that pears were on sale over the weekend.  The price was right because the pears were pretty darn soft.

However, knowing that a pie can’t distinguish between over-ripe and ripe fruit, four large, over-ripe, red pears went to the Icon kitchen.

To make things interesting we also bought 2 large apples that weren’t too soft or too stiff.

Here’s what happened next.

• Peel four large pears and slice into small chunks
• Peel two large apples and slice into small chunks
Mix the slices

What would Jesus buy?

Author Laura M. Hartman will discuss the ethics of Christian consumerism during a discussion, “What would Jesus buy?” at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 in the forum of James F. Dicke Hall at Ohio Northern University. The event is free and open to the public.

“The general question of what we consume is important to everyone, and there are certain moral and ethical considerations that especially connect the question to Christian values,” said Forrest Clingerman, associate professor of philosophy and religion at ONU. “When purchasing an item, is it really going to help me love my neighbor?”

Village leaf pick up starts Oct. 31

The Village of Ada will begin picking up leaves on Monday, Oct. 31. 

By sections of Ada, leaves will be picked up on the following schedule:

Northwest  - Oct. 31, Nov. 7, 14, 28.
Northeast - Nov. 1, 8, 15, 29.
Southeast - Nov. 2, 9, 16, 30.
Southwest - Nov. 3, 10, 17, Dec. 1.
Dates are subject to change due to weather or emergencies.

ONU men’s soccer team now 3rd in DIII national poll

The Ohio Northern men's soccer team moved up to No. 3 nationally in the seventh weekly National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.

The Polar Bears (15-0-3) are also ranked No. 4 in the eighth weekly D3soccer.com poll.

In the NSCAA poll, Chicago (Ill.) is ranked No. 1, Franklin & Marshall (Pa.) is No. 2 and Amherst (Mass.) is No. 4.

In the D3soccer.com poll, Chicago (Ill.) remained at the No. 1 spot with 998 points and 20 first place votes, Messiah (Pa.) is No. 2 with 941 points and the remaining first place vote, Amherst (Mass.) is third with 883 points and ONU is fourth with 879 points.

College of Law included in The Princeton Review’s list of outstanding law schools

"The best 172 law schools"

The Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law is among the nation’s most outstanding law schools, according to The Princeton Review. The ONU College of Law is included in the 2017 edition of The Princeton Review’s annual feature, “The Best 172 Law Schools.”

The rankings are based largely on the responses of students who attend the colleges of law and how they rate their law college experience as well as data collected from colleges of law nationwide.
