ONU hosts first and second rounds of DIII women's tourney this weekend

Illinois Wesleyan, Trine and Lakeland (Wisc) play in Ada

No. 5-ranked Ohio Northern will host the First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament.

ONU will take on Lakeland (Wis.) on Friday, March 3, in a First Round game in the nightcap of a double header at the ONU Sports Center.

No. 17-ranked Trine (Ind.) and Illinois Wesleyan will play in the first game on Friday night.

The two First Round winners will play at the ONU Sports Center on Saturday night in a Second Round game.

ONU men's tennis team swept a tri-match

The Ohio Northern men's tennis team swept a tri-match at Penn State-Behrend with Pitt-Bradford on Saturday at the Westwood Racquet Club.

The Polar Bears (3-1 overall) defeated Pitt-Bradford 9-0 on Saturday afternoon and edged Penn State-Behrend 5-4 Saturday evening.

Freshman Andrew Garcia (Downers Grove, Ill./South) led the Polar Bears with a 4-0 record in the two matches.

He went 2-0 at No. 3 singles and combined with sophomore Tim Kargl (Downers Grove, Ill./South) to win twice at No. 1 doubles.

Miami defeats ONU women in tennis

The Ohio Northern women's tennis team opened its 2017 spring schedule with a strong test, falling 7-0 at NCAA Division I foe Miami (Ohio) Sunday night at the Riverside Athletic Club.

The Polar Bears fall to 8-1, while the Redhawks improve to 3-6.

ONU men's indoor track and field places second in OAC Championships

Senior Kase Schalois (Van Wert) and junior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) led the Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team Saturday afternoon as it competed in the final day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships. 

The Polar Bears finished second in the team standings with 151 points.

ONU improves to 48-16 on the season.

Schalois was named OAC Men's Distance Runner of the Year for his efforts.

Molinaro posted two first place finishes for the Polar Bears as he won the 800-meter run in 1:57.59 and claimed the OAC Title in the 1-mile run in 4:20.41.
