ONU is a busy even during spring break

With lots of people on campus

The Ottawa-Glandorf side filled King Horn to the rafters on Tuesday evening ...and the crowd went home happy.

O-G defeated Liberty-Benton 48-37 in the regional to advance to the state Elite 8 in Division III girls basketball. During the season, L-B had a nearly perfect record, having lost only one game and that was to its nemesis O-G.

King Horn was a busy place Tuesday with Napoleon taking on Toledo Rogers later in the evening. Tonight (Wednesday, March 7) the boys Division II will play for the district title. Defiance takes on Shawnee at 6:15 p.m. while Wauseon and Van Wert look for a win in the 8 p.m. contest.

Preschool screening in Ada on Thursday

For 3-5-year-olds at Liberty Village Preschool

An Ada location is one of four in Hardin County offering preschool screening for the 2018-19 school year.

Liberty Village Preschool, 725 W. North Ave., Ada, will offer screening on Thursday, March 8.  The screening is through the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center.

Screening is for youth ages 3 to 5. Call Midwest Regional ESC to schedule an appointment at 937-599-5195, extension 3020 or email Penny Carrig at [email protected].

These screens help fill classrooms at Little River (USV), Victory Garden (Ridgemont), Northern Lights (Hardin Northern) and Liberty Village (Ada).

Stardeath over Ada skies Friday

Hear all about it at the ONU Observatory

Icon viewers are invited to the ONU Observatory on Friday, March 9, from 8-10 p.m. for a program titled "Stardeath: supernovae and their remnants."

According to Dr. Jason Pinkney,  professor of physics and astronomy and manger of the ONU Observatory, "Stars meet their death in a variety of ways which depends mostly on their mass.  Most massive stars end in spectacular explosions called supernovae.

"Those which occur in our Milky Way galaxy can outshine Venus for a month or more."

800 farmers

On the ONU campus for two-day conservation tillage conference

About 800 farmers from throughout Ohio are attending the 26th annual, two-day Conservation Tillage conference at McIntosh Center.

Sixty presenters are scheduled to talk today and tomorrow.  Many agribusiness exhibits are on hand.

Experts from OSU Extension, OARDC, USDA, and SWCD will talk about the latest research on topics that affect today’s farmers, crop consultants, and agribusiness professionals.

GoFundMe account for Sam growing

Ada community steps up and helps out

Friends and neighbors, relatives and strangers have opened their hearts and pocketbooks for Sam’s funeral expenses. A GoFundMe account was set up with donations reaching $8,200 as of Sunday night. The goal is $8,400.

Samuel (Sam...Sammy) Rowold was only 13 years old when he passed away Feb. 23 in a pond near his home just northeast of Ada. The teenager was non-verbal autistic.

Donations above the cost of the funeral will be given to the Autism Support Group from Hardin County to buy GPS bracelets for other autistic children to help keep them safe.
