ONU announces hiring of vice president of university advancement

Ohio Northern University President Daniel A. DiBiasio has announced the hiring of Shannon Spencer as vice president for university advancement at Ohio Northern University, effective July 6.

Spencer, who is currently assistant vice president for development at Bowling Green State University, replaces Kenneth Block, who will retire from his position after more than 14 years at ONU, with the last five as vice president for university advancement.

11th Summer Academic and Honors Institute at ONU in June

This summer, Ohio Northern University will host its 11th Summer Academic and Honors Institute for gifted high school students who will be freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors in 2015-16.

This year’s institute includes 14 challenging courses scheduled over the month of June. Register by June 6.

Each weeklong course provides a great way to investigate potential career choices or college majors.

Plus, this is the perfect opportunity to interact with other gifted students with instruction provided by ONU professors and special guest lecturers.

Ohio Northern University Summer Music Camp taking applications

Registration is still open for the Ohio Northern University Summer Music Camp to be held June 14-19.

Ohio Northern University Summer Music Camp, open to students in grades 7-12, is a five-day musical experience that offers students a place to grow musically in a fun and exciting learning environment. Summer Music Campers attend classes that address important areas of musicianship like music theory, music technology, conducting, dance, piano classes and jazz improvisation.

Third annual Ohio Pharmacy Residency Conference at ONU

The Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy will host the third annual Ohio Pharmacy Residency Conference (OPRC) on Friday, May 15.

The conference provides an opportunity for residents to present their projects to peers, preceptors and other colleagues. In addition to the educational opportunities, this conference provides a chance for members to network with residents and preceptors from a variety of programs within Ohio, Michigan and Indiana.

Students honored with Dankook Awards

Ohio Northern University presented Dankook Awards to Nathan Rosenbaum, a senior mechanical engineering major from Orville, Ohio, and Molly Wascher, a sixth-year pharmacy major from West Bloomfield, Mich., at ONU’s Honors Day on April 5.

Presented since 1974, the Dankook Award is an annual reciprocal award exchanged between Dankook University in South Korea and Ohio Northern University. The award recognizes students with outstanding records in academics, student leadership, co-curricular activities and service.

University student receives Presser Scholar award

 Ohio Northern University student Shawn Stevens, a junior music education major from Lima, Ohio, has been named a 2015 Presser Scholar Award recipient. As a Presser Scholar, Stevens will receive a $4,200 grant.

The award is given to students who show excellence in academics and a passion for music. In order to present the scholarship each year, the University must have at least 40 undergraduate music majors enrolled in the program. The recipient must have at least one-third of their credit hours in an area other than music.
