World War II history course available virtually

Russ Crawford's Monday evening class is open to the public

Russ Crawford, professor of history at Ohio Northern University, will present a course on World War II that is available virtually to the public at no charge.

Interested persons may email Crawford at [email protected]. He will send interested persons a link to join the class online. 

Classes are Mondays at 6:30 p.m. and continue on Mondays through Nov. 9.

“The class focuses on the World Wars, from 1914 to 1945,” he said. “They are the axle around which the 20thcentury turned.”

Welcome Fest' introduces new students to ONU

Sunday afternoon on the Tundra; classes start Monday

Ohio Northern University's new students will be introduced to the numerous campus organizations and activities during “Welcome Fest” from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday on the campus. The event will be held on the “tundra,”  west of the chapel in the heart of campus.

Representatives of approximately 120 student groups are expected to participate in a Welcome Fest.

The traditional activity introduces new students to opportunities on campus and helps new students in the transition to college life.

Pharmacy gardening outreach project with people living with dementia

An innovative community outreach project by students and faculty members in the Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy was recently featured in a professional publication.

 “Remembering Your Roots: The Role of Horticulture Therapy in People Living with Dementia” was published in a recent edition of the “Ohio Journal of Public Health.”

The outreach endeavor, which captures the essence of service learning, involves gardening and realizing its impact on challenging dementia-related behaviors with residents of Vancrest of Ada health care center. 

ONU making SAT and ACT tests optional for new students in 2021

Update from earlier announcement

Due to SAT and ACT testing cancelations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Ohio Northern University will allow most prospective first-year students, including those homeschooled, to apply for admission in the fall of 2021 without these test scores.

Students applying for admission to the nursing, early childhood education, and middle childhood education programs are not eligible for test-optional admissions and must present their ACT or SAT results due to accreditation standards.

Event supports Dimension Award Scholar Program

The Ohio Northern University Office of Alumni  Engagement invites alums and friends to participate in a virtual 5-K anytime between 9 a.m. on Friday, July 17, and noon on Sunday, July 19.

It's the Polar Bear Virtual 5K in support of ONU’s Dimension Award Scholar Program, which provides financial assistance, social programming and academic support to students from underrepresented backgrounds at ONU.

Due to SAT and ACT testing cancelations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Ohio Northern University will allow most prospective first-year students to apply for admission in the fall of 2021 without these test scores.

Students applying for admission to the nursing, early childhood education, and middle childhood education programs are not eligible for test-optional admissions and must present their ACT or SAT results due to accreditation standards.  Home-schooled students are also not eligible for test-optional admission.

The university will continue to maintain the same high academic standards, and the decision to submit test scores will be left to the student applicant.
