Hardin Sheriff's Office warns of scam

SCAM ALERT!  The Sheriff's Office has been made aware of a scam where an individual receives a call stating that becasue of the person's good character and being a model citizen that Walmart, Apple and an out of state bank have partnered to provide the person with a cash award.  The award is claimed by the person purchasing Apple gift cards at Walmart, then calling a specified phone number where the gift card IDs are provided to the "program representative"; afterwards, the cash value of the card(s)  will supposedly be sent to the person being scammed.  Of course, the money is never receive

Five taken to Lima Memorial Hospital

Five people were taken to Lima Memorial Hospital following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of SR 235 and SR 81 at 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday. None of the injuries were life threatening.

A red SUV driven by Lisa Karn, 55, of Findlay collided with a black pickup driven by Daniel Nash, 16, of rural Ada. Karn was cited for running a red light.

Transported to Lima Memorial Hospital by Ada EMS were Karn and four of her passengers, Madison Melton, 11, Alexis Amsler, 10, Alexavier Amsler, 7, and McKayla Butler, 9, all of Findlay.

Sheriff's Office receives grant to reduce impaired driving.

The Hardin County Sheriff's Office has received a $29,000 grant from the federal government to pay overtime to deputies and related expenses for traffic enforcement, especially impaired driving.

Sheriff's Office: No-Shave-November

The Hardin County sheriff and his deputies might look a little scruffy in November, but it's all for a good cause. The traditional No-Shave-November campaign brings awareness to the plight of cancer sufferers nationwide.

However, this year the proceeds of the campaign will be given to the Eastman and McDonald familes of the South East Hardin EMS squad to assist in offsetting the medical bills of Peggy Eastman and the funeral expenses of Krista McDonald.

Drive safe or get ticketed

Today, Wednesday, Nov. 1, law enforcement officers in Hardin County will begin keeping a keen eye on drivers, looking for all manor of violations during the month because six people have been killed on roads and highways here this year.
State highway patrol, sheriff's officers, Ada and Kenton police today will begin a Hardin County target enforcement of driving laws focusing on failure-to-yield, which caused 3 fatalities; seat-belt violations; and distracted driving, which occurs more now with texting.

Police to crack down on driving violations

Hardin County police departments, including Ada, will conduct targeted enforcement during November because fatalities have increased. There have been six deaths this year in six separate accidents, 50 percent the result of failure-to-yield.

The Ohio State Patrol, Hardin County Sheriff's Office, and Ada and Kenton Police Departments will focus on failure-to-yield, seat-belt violations, and distracted driving.
