The holidays have arrived at ReStore

Several events planned during Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas

Linda Dearth arranges Christmas items for sale at ReStore Community Center, on sale at just pennies on the dollar if purchased at a retailer. The items have been given to ReStore throughout the year and become available for purchase at this time.

Everyone wins in this after-school tutoring program

Mondays and Wednesday at ReStore lead by ONU students

ONU students are offering free tutoring in reading to students in grades 1 to 6 at ReStore Community Center from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesday's through the first week of December when the college students go on break.

Here, Cameron Wykes and Julie Handel enjoy building some objects with "Brain Flakes" before starting to read.

Psychology professor Ann Johnson heads the program which is offered free due to a grant the university received. The student helpers come from several ONU colleges and departments.

Nine youngsters were on hand Monday for the tutoring. New students are welcome to attend.

Ada HS food drive has tie to presidential election

Community can donate canned goods at Friday's football game

Students at Ada High School are holding a canned food drive this week to benefit the Ada Food Pantry.

Students are asked to bring in canned goods and drop them off in the high school office in the morning or during their lunch period.

To connect to the current presidential election, students bringing in canned goods will be asked to "vote" for either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. Results of this election will be announced next week.

Community members are asked to bring canned goods to the varsity football game on Friday, Oct. 21, as well.

 

Ada VFW selling poppies on Friday

The local VFW will sell poppies at ReStore Community Center on Friday, Oct. 21. Buy a poppy and help the local post help assistance programs for veterans.

Wednesday deadline to nominate the next Ada distinguished citizen

Winner will be announced at the Nov. 7 Town and Gown Banquet

Do you know a potential “Distinguished Citizen of Ada?” If so, better tell the Town and Gown Committee asap. The nomination deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 19.

The 51st annual Ada Town and Gown Banquet will be held in the McIntosh Center ballroom on the campus of Ohio Northern University on Monday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m.

An application form is attached at the bottom of this story.

Applications are being accepted for the 2016 winner. The guidelines follow:

• The nominee should be a person who looks at what they can do for others and their community to make a positive impact.

CHEER 63 - a cheerleader born in 1963?

The Icon spotted "CHEER 63" in the Ada school parking lot in September. Look for it in a white Chevy Traverse LTE. Does it belong for a former cheerleader born in 1963? That's our best guess.
