Hardin beef ambassador and scholarship opportunities

The new Hardin County Beef Ambassador Program (HCBAP) provides an opportunity for youth to educate consumers and students about beef nutrition, food safety and stewardship practices of the beef industry. 

The Beef Ambassador Team will promote the beef industry as they develop skills of leadership, communication and self-confidence.  The Beef Ambassador Program seeks to educate team members about the beef industry so that they may be better prepared to tell their own story regarding agriculture.

Feb. 27 - did you know it's National Polar Bear Day?

Polar Bears take a bow. Today (Feb. 27) is your day. February 27 is National Polar Bear Day.

Polar Bears International,  the world's leading polar bear conservation group—dedicated to saving polar bears by saving their sea ice habitat, is the sponsor of the day, which has special meaning in Ada and Ohio Northern University.

After all: Ada is the capital of polar bears in Ohio, or as the ONU Alumni Association states on its Facebook page tonight, "From our tundra to yours."

Pork Banquet Tickets Available

The Hardin County Pork Producers will hold their annual Pork Banquet on Saturday, March 14, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, starting at 6:30 p.m. The fun-filled evening will include selection of the Queen and Scholarship Recipients as well as amazing food and door prizes.

Ticket prices are $6, and half price for 2014 Hardin County Junior Fair Swine Exhibitors, as well as Fair Workers from the Food Pavilion, and children under the age of 12.

Author-illustrator visits Ada school March 24

If your child knows of the books “Oh, Ducky!: A Chocolate Calamity,” “Moishe’s Miracle,” or better yet “I Loathe You,” then everyone is in for a treat.

David Slonim, author-book illustrator involved in those three titles will be in Ada schools in March. His Ada visit is on Tuesday, March 24.

During the week of his visit will be the spring book fair in the school media center. More details on the sale and Slonim’s visit will come later.

In case you wonder, “I Loathe You” tells the story of a monster who is afraid his parents will stop “loathing” him.

Although the temperature reached a high of 32 degrees on Feb. 22, the last day above freezing was Feb. 11, according to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer.

High temperatures in the past week stuck mostly in the teens while daily lows were often in negative territory.

Hardin lamb banquet March 7 - tickets now available

Hardin County - The Hardin County Sheep Improvement Association will hold their annual Lamb Banquet on Saturday, March 7 at St. John’s United Church of Christ at 6:30 pm.  Tickets for the banquet can be obtained from the Extension office at 1021 W. Lima Street, Suite 103, Kenton.  Adult tickets are $15, Children $7, and 2014 Hardin County Junior Fair Sheep Exhibitors free with a reservation given at 419-674-2297 by March 2nd.
