Ada hosts Jeff-Cats in NWC lidlifter for Homecoming

ADA - Short-handed Ada will try to snap a two-game losing skid when they entertain league rival Delphos Jefferson Friday night in the Northwest Conference opener between a pair of 1-2 squads.

DJ crushed Stryker 47-0 on the road last Friday in week three for its first win. The Wildcats lost big to Shawnee (49-0) and Versailles (47-14) in their first two games.

Injury-plagued Ada is coming off of two losses after an opening victory over USV, but hopes to get off on the right foot in league play in week four.

ONU football doing well this season

The Ohio Northern football team received 25 votes in the second weekly 2018 D3football.com, released on Sunday.

 

This marks the 15th time in the last 17 seasons that the Polar Bears have been been mentioned in a national poll.

The 25 points is the 30th-most in the poll.

The Polar Bears (2-0 overall, 1-0 Ohio Athletic Conference) received 14 points in the preseason poll, and 13 points in the first weekly poll last week.

Ohio Northern joins Mount Union (#1), John Carroll (#20) and Baldwin Wallace (31 points) as OAC schools in the poll.

Coach Witte looks for #700 Tuesday

 

Kate Witte, ONU head volleyball coach, will go after her 700th career victory at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the ONU Sports Center. The Polar Bears will play Bluffton. She has been at the helm of the Ohio Northern volleyball program for 29 years.

Bulldogs run at Spencerville

SPENCERVILLE - The Ada boys cross country team finished a solid 10th out of 16 teams in the small school division at the Spencerville Invitational on a wet Saturday morning.

The Bulldogs finished ahead of all the other Northwest Conference schools in both divisions. Ada senior Miguel Jordan claimed a ninth-place finish, passing three people in the last 200 yards to post the best purple and gold individual showing.

Jordan covered the wet 3.1-mile course in 19:05.6.

"It was a wet meet," said Ada head coach Josh Klein. "Everyone left covered in mud and feeling like they showered in their uniforms.

Men’s soccer suffers loss

The Ohio Northern men's soccer team fell to No. 7-ranked Calvin (Mich.) 9-2 on Saturday evening in the final match of the 2018 ONU Invitational held at Kerscher Stadium in Ada.

 

The Polar Bears drop to 1-2-1 on the season while Calvin improves to 4-0-0 overall.

It’s 699 career wins for Coach Witte

BLUFFTON — The Ohio Northern volleyball team, ranked 18th nationally, wrapped up the Bluffton Spiketacular with thrilling 5-set victories over DePauw (Ind.) and Bluffton on Saturday afternoon at the Sommer Center.

The Polar Bears (6-2 overall) edged DePauw 25-17, 14-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-6 and got past Bluffton 25-20, 25-10, 22-25, 19-25, 15-6.

Junior Sydney Bapst was Ohio Northern's representative to the All-Tournament Team. Bapst finished the day with 21 kills and four blocks.

ONU head coach Kate Witte notched her 699th career victory in her 29th year at the helm of the Ohio Northern volleyball program.
