ADA - Host Ada outscored Spencerville 16-9 in the fourth quarter, then held off a last-ditch Bearcat effort to pull out an exciting 50-48 Northwest Conference boys basketball victory Friday night.
Spencerville had a chance to tie or win in the final seconds, but Ada sophomore guard Zac Swaney stole the ball from Dalton Prichard with five ticks left to preserve the comeback win.
The Bulldogs improved to 3-13 and 2-3 in the NWC with the victory, while the Bearcats fell to 1-13 and 0-5 in the NWC with their 10th straight defeat.
Ohio Northern men's basketball team dropped a 79-70 decision to Baldwin Wallace on Thursday night at the ONU Sports Center.
The Polar Bears (4-16 overall, 0-13 Ohio Athletic Conference) got 20 points and nine rebounds from senior Daniel Donner (Bellville/Northmor).
Senior All-American Ryan Bruns (Chickasaw/Marion Local) added 12 points, junior Caleb Bryan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) had 10 points and nine rebounds and sophomore Colton Bachman (Piqua) chipped in 10 points in the contest for ONU.
The Yellow Jackets (14-6, 8-5) were led by Jay Battle with 17 points.

KENTON - The Ada swim teams lost a dual meet at local rival Kenton in the Hardin County YMCA Tuesday night.
"We had a lot of good swims, and performed very well at the meet," noted first-year Bulldog head coach Stephanie Steiner.
The purple and gold girls lost a close meet to Kenton 80-71, while the Bulldog boys lost to the Wildcats, 102-46. Kenton won the combined event, 182-117.
Ada junior ace Klava Katayama captured first in the 200 freestyle and 100-yard butterfly races.

ADA - Visiting Upper Scioto Valley used strong inside play and better foul shooting to hold off spunky Ada 48-36 in a hard-fought backyard rivalry girls basketball game Tuesday night.
The Lady Bulldogs fell to 1-16 with the defeat, while the Lady Rams improved to 2-12 with the win.
USV ran out to a nine-point lead, but Ada clawed back within 20-16 at halftime. The Rams earned a little breathing room with a 14-8 third period and basically held on to a double-digit margin the rest of the way.
Anticipated temperatures of 15-below zero on Wednesday evening have forced the postponement of Ohio Northern's men's and women's basketball games with Baldwin Wallace to Thursday evening.
The Polar Bear men will now host the Yellow Jackets on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the ONU Sports Center and the Polar Bear women will travel to Berea for a 7 p.m. contest at Ursprung Gymnasium.
