Katayama leads Ada girls past Kenton

KENTON - The Ada swim teams split a dual meet at area rival Kenton Tuesday night in the Hardin County YMCA.

 

The Lady Bulldog swimmers beat Kenton 97-64 while the Ada boys lost to the Wildcats, 92-53.

 

Sophomore Klava Katayama finished first in two races to lead the Ada girls, who won seven events overall, to their head-to-head team victory.

 

Up next, Ada swims in the Div. II sectionals at the Lima YMCA Saturday, February 10.

Carroll shoots USV past Lady Bulldogs

ADA - Visiting Upper Scioto Valley used two big first-half runs to build an intermission cushion, and made it stand up in a 68-52 win over local arch-rival Ada in girls basketball action Tuesday night.

 

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 4-13 overall with the non-conference defeat, while the Lady Rams improved to 4-11 with the hard-fought win.

 

USV senior guard Kaycee Carroll poured in a game-high 26 points and classmate Haley Hunsicker contributed 16 markers to lead the hot-shooting Rams. USV knocked down eight three-point goals, all in the first 18 minutes.

 

Wrestling: ONU 48, Otterbein 0

The Ohio Northern wrestling team swept all 10 weight classes to post an impressive 48-0 victory over Otterbein on Tuesday night at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 8-9 overall and get back to even in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 2-2 record.

The Cardinals fall to 6-5, 1-4.

Sophomore Aidan Pierobon (Rochester Hills, Mich./Stoney Creek), junior Clayton Davidson (Kirtland) and sophomore Nate Barcaskey (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) each registered falls to lead Ohio Northern.

Loss lowers ranking 5 spots

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team fell five spots to No. 15 in the ninth weekly edition of the D3Hoops.com poll.

Northern (17-2 overall, 11-1 OAC) posted a 1-1 record in the conference last week after defeating Wilmington at the ONU Sports Center 71-48 and falling on the road at Capital 84-76.

Player of the Week for 3rd time

Sophomore Nolan Huey (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge) earned his third career OAC Men's Swimmer of the Week honor for his efforts during the week of Jan. 23-29.

The sophomore earned the honor for the second time this season after leading Northern during the week in the pool.

In ONU's tri-meet at No. 3-ranked Kenyon with Ohio Wesleyan and the Lords, Huey was third in the 200 free in 1:45.76 and the 100 back in :53.50.

Molinaro named Athlete of Week

ONU senior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle)  has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week.

The senior earned the honor for the the second time in his career.

Molinaro excelled at the SPIRE Institute Midwest Track & Field Open where he posted a first place finish in the 1-mile run.

Molinaro edged the field composed of Div. II and III athletes in the event, winning the race in a career-fastest time of 4:14.16.
