Richards named Athlete of the Week

Junior Emily Richards(Delaware/Hayes) earned her third consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4.

Richards helped the Polar Bears (30-6 overall) to a first place finish at the annual ONU Joe Banks Invitational on Saturdayafternoon.

The junior posted another record-setting day, as she broke her own 800-meter run school record for the second consecutive week and ran the sixth fastest time in Div. III history in the event.

Richards finished second overall in the event in 2:08.83 behind 2016 Div. II 800-meter run National Champion Carsyn Koch in what proved to be an exciting finish.

Allen, Player of the Week

Senior Devon Allen (Lima/Senior) has been named the men's basketball Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4.

Allen helped Ohio Northern (14-7 overall, 12-2 OAC) to its eighth and ninth straight victories last week.

Northern will look to keep its winning streak alive Wednesday evening as it welcomes Heidelberg to the ONU Sports Center for a 7pm  tipoff

Chase Sumner NWC wrestler of the year

And he captured first place in 138-weight class at NWC meet

Ada junior Chase Sumner (138) was named Wrestler of The Year in the NWC in a vote by the coaches. The conference meet took place at Spencerville over the weekend.

Mike Abbey of Allen East was voted by his peers as NWC Coach of The Year.

Repeat winners from last year included Chase Sumner (Ada-138), Andrew Foust (DJ-120), Luke Brown (AE-145), Cole Wilson (BL-152) and Deandre Nasser (BL-195). 

Allen East and Bluffton led the way with 4 individual champions while Delphos Jefferson had 3 individual champions in the tournament.

Ohio Northern women's basketball remains undefeated

The No. 6-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team clinched at least a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season title with an 86-78 victory at Muskingum on Saturday at the Steele Center.

The Polar Bears stay undefeated on the season at 21-0 overall and improve to 14-0 in the OAC.

Northern also clinched the No. 1 seed (and the double-bye that comes with it) in the OAC Tournament. ONU has a 4-game lead over Wilmington (10-4) and Baldwin Wallace (10-4) with four games left in the regular season and holds the tiebreaker over both schools.

The Muskies fall to 10-11, 6-8.

Ohio Northern's men take second place at the Joe Banks Invitational

The Ohio Northern men's track and field team took second place Saturday afternoon as it competed in the annual Joe Banks Invitational at the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse.

Junior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) posted a new meet record in the 800-meter run, finishing in 1:54.39 to lead Northern.

In the weight throw, senior Lucas Shumate(Wapakoneta/Spencerville) took first place with a toss of 57' 6.25".
