Wrestling picked to finish 3rd in OAC

The Ohio Northern wrestling team was picked to finish third in the 2018-19 Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestling regular season standings in voting conducted by the league's seven head coaches.

 

The Polar Bears, under 31st-year head coach Ron Beaschler, received 36 points in the voting.

Baldwin Wallace was picked to win the league with 49 points and seven first place votes. Mount Union was second with 42 points and one first place vote and Heidelberg was picked to finish fourth with 31 points.

The Polar Bears return nine lettermen from last year's squad that went 9-10 overall and finished fourth in the OAC with a 3-3 league record.

Volleyball last home match is Saturday

Saturday's Preview: Ohio Northern wraps up its 2018 regular season home slate Saturday, Oct. 20 as the Polar Bears welcome in OAC foe Capital for Senior Day at the ONU Sports Center  ... Match time is set for 1 p.m. ... The women's volleyball program will honor seniors Taylor Emery, Michaela Sharlow, and Josie Andres during the contest on Saturday ... Northern enters the matchup ranked No. 23 in the seventh weekly AVCA national polls released on Tuesday ... The Polar Bears own a 16-7 overall record and a 5-1 mark against the conference loop this season ... ONU's conference record currently places them in a two-way tie for second place in the OAC standings alongside.

Lucinda Ann Basso, 1971 - 2018

Lucinda Ann Basso passed from this life on Thursday, October 18th, at 8:25 a.m. at Seasons Hospice, Miami Jewish Medical Center in Miami, Florida after surviving 15 years with Central Nervous System (CNS) Vasculitis.  She was 47 years old.

Cindy as she was known to her family and friends was the daughter of Rev. Walter Wilson, Jr. and Judith Ann (Jump) Powers born to them in Kenton, Ohio on August 24, 1971.  On June 25, 2000, Cindy was united in marriage with Martin Basso in Jacksonville, Florida and shortly thereafter moved to Doral, Florida.  In 2003, the couple moved to Louisville, Kentucky and returned to Doral in 2009 where they have lived since.

• Monday, Oct. 22, Ada Kiwanis registration at 5:30 p.m. behind the city building; parade to Depot begins at 6 p.m., many prizes for best costumes, a big deal in this town.

• Tuesday, Oct. 23, registration begins at 5 p.m. in McIntosh Center activities room, small groups visit residence halls, dinner at 6 p.m. in McIntosh ballroom. Lots of candy in a short time.

Hard hat tours Saturday, Oct. 27

Your chance to take a peek inside the ONU engineer building under construction

Do you want to take a peek at the new James Lehr Kennedy Engineering Building now under construction near English Chapel and Heterick Library? Hard hat tours will be offered between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.

Visitors, including ONU’s Homecoming returnees, can get a glimpse of what is in store for future engineers who study here. The lobby area in the center of the building will be accessible for four hours on that Saturday. Work on the $30 million project has progressed rapidly since construction began in mid May. The large, three-story structure will be occupied next fall.

Lady Bulldogs sweep Ridgemont in sectionals

ARLINGTON - Following a nine-day layoff, the Ada volleyball team faced Hardin County foe Ridgemont in second round Div. IV sectional competition at Arlington Thursday night.

After receiving a bye to begin defense of its district crown, rust was not a factor as the Lady Bulldogs took down the Golden Gophers in straight sets with relative ease by a 25-11, 25-12, 25-16 count.

With the win, third seed Ada improved to 12-11 and advanced to the district semifinals at Findlay vs. top seed Arlington (18-5). Ridgemont, which beat Cory-Rawson in the first round, ends its season 12-9 after the defeat.
