ONU swim/dive begins Oct. 20 with new coach

The Ohio Northern men's and women's swimming and diving teams are set to open the 2018-19 season under first-year head coach Austin Veltman when they take the pool at the annual Kenyon Relays held Saturday, Oct. 20.

 

The meet, which will serve as Northern's season opener for the sixth consecutive season, will be held in two different locations. The swimming portion of the event will be held at Kenyon while all divers will compete at nearby Denison located in Granville.

The Ada Soccer Cup

For those who didn’t get their fill of soccer during World Cup, ONU hosted a boy’s soccer camp last weekend. Ohio Northern is home to many soccer camps during the summer. There are several playing fields on the West Campus. A drive down Klingler Road or near the stadium will usually find a soccer camp going on in July and August. (Monty Siekerman photo)

$650,000 storm sewer installed on campus

Large machinery and piles of stone mean that another sewer project is underway in Ada.

A 36-inch storm sewer is being installed on campus near Heterick Library, McIntosh Center, and The Inn. A water retention basin will be dug south of The Inn. T

he project costs about $650,000 with the village paying for the engineering costs and testing. The university has agreed to pay for the rest. The current storm sewer is too small and is deteriorating due to age. Completion is set for Aug. 31.

What began as a friendship between coworkers in the office at Temple Christian School in Lima, has turned into a new retail business in the heart of downtown Ada.

Mindy Altstaetter and Jodi Callahan will open The Mercantile on Main on Thursday offering refurbished furniture, jewelry, children’s clothing, wood and metal art, food items, lighting, gifts, and more. Those wishing to sell on consignment may stop by or call.

Pirate and Mermaid Pary Friday at The Inn at ONU

The Inn at ONU has two events planned this week. Persons interested should RSVP to the Inn at 419-772-2500.

Pirate and Mermaid Party

The afternoon includes family activities and a photo opportunity based on a pirate-mermaid theme. The drink menu includes ocean water blue, raspberry lemonades, pirate gold lemonade and Blackbeard’s brewed ice team.

Cost is $32 for one adult and one child under 13. Additional guests are $18 per adult and $8 per child.

Ada Village Council meeting moved to Railroad Depot

The Ada Village Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday July 17, (tonight) will be held at the Railroad Depot instead of the City Building.
