Spelling bee winners

Here are winners of this year’s Ada elementary spelling bee held earlier this week.

Jeanne Previte retires from restaurant business

On Friday evening Ada resident Jeanne Previte served her final meal at the restaurant in Bluffton that carries her name. With Jeanne (on left) are her husband, Peter, and the new restaurant owner, Heather Cox, and her husband, Colin. The restaurant will close the first week of March and reopen on March 6 under its new management.

Body of Hugh Ries discovered in crawl space

Sunday afternoon fire near Alger

The search for the missing person believed to have been entrapped in his burning home at 0529 Hardin County Road 80 has concluded with the discovery of his body in the badly-burned structure, according to the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office.

The body of Hugh Ries, 65, was discovered at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Monday in a crawl space beneath rubble of the collapsed kitchen.

Hardin County 911 Dispatch received a report at 4:21 p.m. on Sunday of a fire and possible entrapment at the Alger address. Mr. Rise was the only person known to be at home at the time.

Ada varsity quiz bowl team unbeaten on Monday

At 10-team Ada invitational bowl

Ada High School varsity quiz bowl team won its own Quiz Bowl Invitational on Monday evening.

Last fall, the team won the conference championship, which qualified the group to compete in a regional competition in April in Van Wert, according to Dave Lusk, team coach.

The following shows results, with Ada’s varsity winning each of its five matches and earning 75 points.

A two-way tie for second place, with 68 points each, was earned Liberty Benton and Bluffton.

Joshua H Risner, 1986 - 2018

 Joshua H. Risner, age 31, died on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 8:38 p.m. at the Lutheran Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio.

          He was born on June 22, 1986 in Bluffton, Ohio to Kenneth Risner and Nancy (Gay) Schramm.  His father survives in North Olmsted and his mother survives in Columbus Grove. 

          Joshua worked as a roofer for Super Roofers. 

          He is also survived by his children: Jordan, Abby, Payton and Jaxson; a brother, Jeremy (Tiffany) Blauvelt of Lima; two sisters: Kalisha Hefner of Bellefontaine and Shannon Blauvelt of Wapakoneta; and his paternal grandmother, Tennie Risner of North Olmsted.
