English reading series event

An English reading series event will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20, in McIntosh Center. The public is welcome to attend.

Montreal-based poet and fiction writer Virginia Konchan will read alongside senior creative writing major and Polaris Literary Magazine co-editor-in-chief Marisa Lucas.

Wear maroon or silver Tuesday

Gatekeepers, the newly-formed Ada chapter of the American Mental Health Alliance, encourages Ada students K-12 and staff to wear maroon and/or silver tomorrow (Tuesday) in honor and memory of those affected by the school shooting in Florida. Maroon (or burgundy) and silver are the school colors of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland where the tragedy occurred.

It's 1903 and the depot is busy

It's 1903 and here's Ada's Pennsylvania Railroad passenger depot, on the double-track Chicago to New York line. What's changed since then? Now there is only one track. There's only freight trains, but the depot continues its over-one-century presence in Ada. John Marshall provided this photo to the Icon.

Kindergarten registration March 12-16

Screening takes place May 7-8

Ada Schools kindergarten registration will be held from 8:45 until 3 p.m.during the week of March 12-16. Also, registration will be offered on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. 

Here are the details:

Your child does not have to attend registration.  During registration you will be able to set up a time for your child’s kindergarten screening to be held May 7 or May 8.  Your child will need to come with you for screening in May.
 

At the time of registration you must bring the following:

Child’s birth certificate

Child’s social security card

Child’s immunization record

Custody papers, if applicable

Future Ada cheerleaders (and current cheerleaders)
