Back-to-school sales tax holiday Aug. 4-6

A back-to-school Ohio sales tax holiday is in effect from noon, Friday, Aug. 4, at until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6

During the holiday, the following items are exempt from sales and use tax:

• Clothing priced at $75 per item or less;
• School supplies priced at $20 per item or less; and
• School instructional material priced at $20 per item or less.     

Items used in a trade or business are not exempt under the sales tax holiday.

Single Moms Mingle group organized

A new group, Single Moms Mingle, will meet for the first time at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Ada Presbyterian Church for ice cream and movies.Thereafter, the group will meet monthly at the church beginning on Thursday, Sept 14.

The group, for single moms and their children, will gather at 7:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month through May. Supper and child care will be provided.

ONU linebacker from Wapak named Preseason All-America

Ohio Northern senior linebacker Zach Schmerge (Wapakoneta) was named Second Team Preseason All-America for the upcoming 2017 season by D3football.com.

Schmerge is a three-year starter and a two-time First Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree at middle linebacker for the Polar Bears.

He was also named Second Team All-North Region by D3football.com last season and Third Team All-North Region in 2015.

Schmerge led the team and the OAC with 103 tackles as a junior in 2015 after being second in the league with 111 tackles as a sophomore in 2015.

Last year, he was named Preseason All-American by The Sporting News magazine.

Kiwanis Lt Govenor to attend meeting

The Ada Kiwanis Club will meet on Tuesday August 8, at War Memorial Park, Ada.

Lt. Governor Robert Day, Lima, will visit.

Some day soon

Here's the status of the Ada Public Library building project. There's lots of fencing, dirt and construction work going on. Meanwhile, inside the library, it's business as usual.

They come through ReStore door - the rich and poor, short and tall, with canes and walkers or on their own two feet, some a little puggy or not, the young and old, some very old--to have a meal, socialize, and get a hug from Store Manager Linda Dearth. Now, Linda has announced her retirement.

A retirement reception, with refreshments, will be held in her honor from 4-6 p.m. on Friday at ReStore, 210 N. Main. All are invited.

"I've met some awesome people and have had wonderful people to work with," she said. "I've been very blessed."
