IRS offers "fresh start" changes

 

The Internal Revenue Service  announced another expansion of its "Fresh Start" initiative by offering more flexible terms to its Offer in Compromise (OIC) program that will enable some of the most financially distressed taxpayers clear up their tax problems and in many cases more quickly than in the past.

"This phase of Fresh Start will assist some taxpayers who have faced the most financial hardship in recent years," said IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman. "It is part of our multiyear effort to help taxpayers who are struggling to make ends meet."

Danny J. “Crazy Dog” McDougle 1953-2012

Danny J. “Crazy Dog” McDougle, age 58, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 1:30 p.m at his residence in Dola, Ohio.

He was born on Dec. 11, 1953 in Kenton, Ohio, to Thomas Jay and Ruby Eleanor (Sparrow) McDougle. His father survives in Dunkirk, Ohio, and his mother preceded him in death.

Danny worked for Tower Automotive. He was a graduate of Hardin Northern High School.  He was a member of the NRA, National Muzzle Loaders Association, Liberty Conservation Club and Disabled Veterans of America.

Apollo student built home goes up for June auction

Apollo Career Center Carpentry and Construction and Equipment Technology classes are putting the finishing touches on Apollo's student-built house.

Open Houses will be held June 3, 1-3 p.m. The stone and vinyl ranch is is located on a wooded lot in Cridersville at 723 Briarwood. The interior includes three bedrooms,
two full baths, Granite countertops and custom cabinets. It will be offered at public auction Saturday, June 23, at 10 a.m.

Delays, rain . . . but ONU contingent now ready to roll

I am in the Dominican Republic for my fourth visit.

We had a bit of a challenge getting here Friday – a mechanical issue with the plane delayed us for five hours – but we received a $100 voucher toward future travel and $6 to buy lunch so not a bad deal.  And given that there was a huge tropical depression sitting over the Dominican Republic and a lot of rain, we didn't miss much.  No real beach-time was sacrificed!

ONU Professor Christine North, three other faculty members, and 26 students have arrived in the Dominican Republic, where they will spend two weeks working in small communities near San Juan de la Maguana. It is Dr. North's fourth visit to that country.  The Icon will carry Dr. North's reports on the trip, as well as stories on the students and their activities. 

Kevin Byrne named head men's basketball coach at Ohio Northern

Kevin Byrne has been named the head men's basketball coach at Ohio Northern University.

Byrne comes to Ohio Northern after a 4-year stint at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he served as associate head coach, and brings 13 years of coaching experience and three years of experience playing professional basketball to the Polar Bears.

The Akron, Ohio, native also has coaching stints at Marietta and Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) and played professional basketball for three seasons in Europe.
