ONU recognized as Private University of the Year by Washington Center

The Washington Center (TWC) for Internships and Academic Programs, an organization that provides college students with the opportunity to work and learn in the nation’s capital, has named Ohio Northern University as its Private University of the Year.

Raabe College of Pharmacy forms student chapter of the Personalized Medicine Coalition

Students in the Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy have formed a student chapter of the Personalized Medicine Coalition (PMC). More than 100 students comprise the newly formed group.

The purpose of this ONU student PMC chapter is to foster the development and awareness of personalized medicine both educationally and professionally. The organization consists of six sections based on the PMC document “The Case for Personalized Medicine”: technology, regulatory policy, payment, health information technology, genetic non-discrimination and medical education.

Proposed Competitive balance issue using ‘athletic counts’ for team sports fails again by slim margin

Thirteen of the 14 proposed Ohio High School Athletic Association Constitution and Bylaw revisions passed as voted upon by OHSAA member schools, Commissioner Daniel B. Ross, Ph.D., has announced. Changes were approved to three Constitution items and 10 Bylaw items.

The bylaw issue that did not pass for the second consecutive year was a proposal to change how schools are assigned to tournament divisions in the team sports of football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball to address competitive balance.

Tractor Pull comes to Ada Friday evening

The Hardin County Tractor Pullers is hosting its fourth annual Ada War Memorial Truck Pull on Friday, May 18, at 7 p.m. at the Ada War Memorial Park.

Gates will open at 3 p.m. with registration starting at 5 p.m. Entry fee is $20. The event is open to the world class, including diesel and gas trucks, as well as semis.

There are no refunds and those interested in attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

A rain date is set for Saturday, May 19, at 7 p.m. if Friday’s events are cancelled due to weather.

To keep or not to keep: Deciding what to do with paperwork after tax filing season

Spring’s warming temperatures have been known to inspire bouts of cleaning.  Taming the growing pile of household paperwork is one potential task, but what documents should be kept, and which can be thrown away?  The Internal Revenue Service offers some timely advice for those bitten by the spring cleaning bug.

According to the IRS, taxpayers should keep a copy of their tax returns and all return-related, substantiating documents.  The IRS typically requests to review wage and other income statements, plus receipts for qualifying expenses, for those tax returns selected for audit.

Before there was a Dixie Highway...before there was a Lincoln Highway...before there was a State Route 235...railroads were the way to travel.

Here's a 1902 photograph of Ada's Pennsylvania Railroad depot. The line connected New York City and Chicago with very fast service. Depending upon your point of view, not much or, quite a bit has change in 110 years.
